Hi all,

my WIN7 Intel PC started failing updates in october ;-(

SURT gave no errors

CBS log gave one error: 0x80073701 on KB4516065

Tried to install 4516065 from catalogue, got a "this file is not for your computer" ;-(

Looked for the other installs that are or might be needed for 4516065 . . all already installed

Sooo . . bit stumped here . .

Any ideas?

Tnx

Fritz

Good morning to you sir!

Thank you for replying . . I ran the install again, and attach the CBS.log. Earlier logs avble of course . . Thank you for looking!

I also include in this message some of the things I tried earlier, FYI.

1. My PC: 64-bits Windows 7 on Intel Core i5-4440CPU 3.10 GHz on ASUS Motherboard
started to fail several updates in last october ;-( . . Mostly with a Code 80073701.

2. So . . I'thought well let's try install/upgrade to Windows 10 see if that corrects it ;-)
Unfortunately that came back with failed to install Windows 10 and left Windows 7. Error: 0x8007001F - 0x20006. Phase SAFE_OS error during REPLICATE_OC, Microsoft.com Link-ID 528892.
Seemed complicated, looked like critical error in current Win7 install/system, so first decided to try and find and repair the update-errors in current Windows 7 . .

3. Example: found and researched error 0x80070490 on KB4519976 (2019-10), error 80073701
did: Rename software distribution backup folders
  1. Ren %systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.bak
  2. Ren %systemroot%\system32\catroot2 catroot2.bak
  3. Close the Command Prompt window, and reboot your computer.
Check for Windows Updates again. Did this resolve the issue? NO

4. Tried SFC: -> no succes. Diagcab -> no succes. Checksur -> no succes. ReimagePlus -> no succes.

5. So far haven't been able to install: 2592687 (RDP), 4519972 (preview 2019-10), 4519976 (2019-10), 4525235 (2019-11), 4525251 (2019-11), 4530734 (2019-12). But install latest maintenance stack update KB4531786 did complete this morning!

Tweaking.com's WindowsRepair reported Missing packages entries in registry: 4507449 (2019-07), 4493472 (2019-04), 4512506 (2019-08), 4516065 (2019-09), 4499164 (2019-05), 4503292 (2019-06), 4474419 (2019-08), all .cat en .mum entries. Had them removed.

6. Also came across a Win7 update error 0x80070490, pointing to system components store and/or components based servicing. Combined with the no succes with sfc, diagcab, sur, suspicions go out to Win_SxS.

7. Started to look closer in CBS.log for Win_SxS errors came across one: error 0x80073701, on KB4516065. Tried to install 4516065 from catalogue, got a "this file is not for your computer" ;-(
Looked for the other installs that are or might be needed for 4516065 . . all already installed.

8. Stumped, and running out of ideas, posted on Sysnative to reach out for specialists.
