Hello nice community, after several hours of fight I decided to look for assistance with updating last 5 updates on my 2k8 r2 server which left to install. All previous updates installed with success after some restarts of server but 5 left...
I restarted server, tried install again, even downloaded manually .msu file with one update from update catalog. I Run sfc scan ant it stated that without errors, later SURT - reported no errors detected, and at the end I run SFCFix and it says no corruption found.

I attach CBS archive
CBS.zip (35.22MB) - SendSpace.com

What can be wrong with it ?

Hello and welcome!

Retrieve Components Hive
1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
2. Please copy this file to your desktop.
Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
3. Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
4. The file will likely be too large to upload here so please upload to a file sharing service. Examples of services to upload to are Dropbox or OneDrive or SendSpace and then just provide the link in your reply.

Thank you.

Please do the following:

Install Update with DISM

  1. Download this update and save to your desktop. The file name will be Windows6.1-KB4022168-x64.cab.zip.
  2. Right-click on this file and select Extract All... Click the Extract button. You can close the folder window that opens
  3. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  4. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator. Go ahead and allow if you receive the UAC prompt.
  5. Copy and paste the following command into the command prompt window and press enter.

    dism /online /add-package /packagepath:%userprofile%\desktop\Windows6.1-KB4022168-x64.cab
  6. You should receive the message:
    The operation completed successfully.
Restart Windows to complete this operation. <---You may not get this line.
Do you want to restart the computer now (Y/N)? <---You may not get this line.

Go ahead and do so if prompted. Let me know what errors if any come up.

If that does not work, please try the following command:

dism /online /add-package /packagepath:%userprofile%\desktop\Windows6.1-KB4022168-x64.cab\Windows6.1-KB4022168-x64.cab

If you do get errors, please zip/attach your CBS.log

Isn't this KB... designated for Windows 7 as I read ? Ok I executed this command and get:

Tool zur Abbildverwaltung für die Bereitstellung
Version: 6.1.7600.16385

Abbildversion: 6.1.7601.18489

Fehler: 87

Es wurden keine Pakete gefunden, die eine Verarbeitung erfordern.

Die DISM-Protokolldatei befindet sich unter "C:\Windows\Logs\DISM\dism.log".

I attached CBS and dism logs.

yes, the second command worked fine - the difference is nested subfolder which in first case caused error. But now all updates installed successfully - after them 2 newer appeared and I installed them too.

But main question which arise in my head - why this particular KB4022168 update did you let me to install ? Why this one ? Was it uncompressed intentionally to avoid any potential errors while update process work on archive ? I know that it's from experience but...these answers let me sleep well ;) Thank you very much.

There was a missing file. I check your components hive to see where I could find it. When I found the file, I concluded that this update was either installed incorrectly or damaged at a later time somehow, so I reinstalled it.

And yes, you are correct about the subfolder. :-) Yes, I uncompress it in order to make it easier for the users.
