[SOLVED] Can't update/install MTP, windows 10 cannot detect and read files from samsung android

First, I heartily agree with @xrobwx71 in that you must get rid of Snappy and anything like it. Those utilities, all of them from third parties, fall into the "that way lies madness" category. That/those utilities need to be removed first, before doing anything else.

There's also something else afoot here as this is not the kind of error you should be getting when plugging in an Android device, particularly from Samsung. Windows already "knows about" all these devices and they are "plug and play."

Whenever inexplicable issues present themselves “out of the blue” and with seemingly no reason, these are the two things I try first, in order:

1. Using DISM (Deployment Imaging Servicing and Management) and SFC (System File Checker) to Repair Windows 8.1, 10 & 11

2. Doing a Windows 10 or 11 Repair Install or Feature Update Using the Windows ISO file

If #1 fixes the issue(s) #2 is unnecessary.

That wpdmtp.inf file is either corrupt or invalid hence why Windows isn't able to install the drivers for that device. Where did you download the driver package from?

I haven't downloaded any wpdmtp.inf besides what's already in that INF folder.

Could you please remove Snappy driver installer as suggested by the others and then provide the following log file:

Rich (BB code):
%systemroot%\Inf\setupapi.dev.log

The Inf file is missing an important section so it's either become corrupt at some point or the Snappy driver installer has silently downloaded it.

Thank you, could you please run SFCFix with the attached script?

SFCFixScript.txt

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the attached file, SFCFixScript.txt, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFixScript.txt - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFixScript.txt.
  5. Drag the file SFCFixScript.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a log should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this into your next post for me to analyse please - put [CODE][/CODE] tags around the log to break up the text.[/list]
