HI bazer

Thanks for sending along the detailed info. Sorry to say, but while the laptop does indeed have a 64-bit capable processor, the integrated Intel HD Graphics ("Havendale/Clarkdale") don't have any officially supported drivers for Windows 10 (the last available driver was for the original version of Windows 8). HP doesn't list any drivers for your daughter's laptop newer than Windows 7.

If Windows 7 is performing well, though - it's no great loss. It is likely to continue performing well (especially if you turn off the Telemetry nonsense if you've been unfortunate enough to have any of it appear on your Windows 7 computers ... much of that is from Microsoft's latest overly-aggressive manhandling of its loyal customers - trying to get them to switch to Windows 10 ... pretty sad, since in your case you'd like to upgrade to 10, but can't!). Windows 7 is likely the best choice for that hardware.

Windows 7 will continue to get Security Updates through mid-January 2020, when that laptop will likely be nearing its retirement. Should it still be in "great shape for it's age" (something us oldtimers like to hear said) ... in mid-January 2020, you could migrate it to a non-demanding distro of Linux.

Here's a guide to turning off unwanted telemetry in Windows 7 (and 8/8.1) .....
How to stop Microsoft from gathering telemetry data from Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 - Super User

Best of luck!

P.S. .... Here's the Compatibility List from Intel: Supported Operating Systems for Intel(R) Graphics Products

thanks for your help managed too install ok in the end using iso etc. upgraded latest graphics driver seems windows 10 32 bit does not give all the cpu stats as normal thanks again baz

Thanks for letting us know. Hope your daughter enjoys her computer even better than before. Lots of new features to explore.
