Hello sysnative! :)

I have been having this problem for quite a while, where the Windows monthly security updates have failed to install.
All other updates seem to install without a problem.
I've had this problem for about a year almost.
I've tried the usual suggestions to be found online but to no avail.

I'm running Windows 64 SP1 on an AMD A10 7800 system.

Things i have tried, deleting the local update cache.. downloading the updates and manually installing (cannot remember any error codes). I think i ran all the Fix It's from Microsoft.

Then i found this site and have ran through all the suggested steps in the post "Windows Update Forum Posting instructions"

SFC scan found nothing.
I ran SURT/DISM scan - that completed successfully.
SFCFix also found nothing:
SFCFix version 3.0.0.0 by niemiro.
Start time: 2018-12-05 14:12:42.880
Microsoft Windows 7 Service Pack 1 - amd64
Not using a script file.

So, here is my post! I have also uploaded the CBS.zip to dropbox, which can be found at the following link:

-Thanks for reading. I will try and be as attentive as possible to any replies.

I should add the name of the patch that is (currently) failing: it was KB4467107 and the code was: 8024200D

Hello and welcome!

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the attached file, SFCFixScript.txt, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFixScript.txt - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFixScript.txt.
  5. Drag the file SFCFixScript.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a log should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this into your next post for me to analyse please - put tags around the log to break up the text.

Hi softwaremaniac,

Thanks for answering. I did as you said, and here is the output text of the file:

Retrieve Components Hive
1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
2. Please copy this file to your desktop.
Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
3. Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
4. The file will likely be too large to upload here so please upload to a file sharing service and just provide the link here.

Install Update with DISM

  1. Download this update and save to your desktop. The file name will be Windows6.1-KB4038803-x64.cab.zip.
  2. Right-click on this file and select Extract All... Click the Extract button. You can close the folder window that opens
  3. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  4. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator. Go ahead and allow if you receive the UAC prompt.
  5. Copy and paste the following command into the command prompt window and press enter.

    dism /online /add-package /packagepath:%userprofile%\desktop\Windows6.1-KB4038803-x64.cab
  6. You should receive the message:
    The operation completed successfully.
Restart Windows to complete this operation. <---You may not get this line.
Do you want to restart the computer now (Y/N)? <---You may not get this line.

Go ahead and do so if prompted. Let me know what errors if any come up. If you do get errors, please zip/attach your CBS.log

Hi softwaremaniac,

I've done the above. It looked to have worked, it got to the end and asked me to restart to complete.
During the restart, it looked to have installed and configured some update - got to 30% restarted and then resumed the rest and restarted again to desktop.
So whatever update that operation installed, looked to have worked.

What now?

Should i try the stuck updates again, or are there more steps first?

OK! Success!

The stuck update is now installed. I have no idea what ju-ju that was.. but it has done the trick. I can't thank you enough.
If you have paypal, i'd like to buy you a beer!

Can you tell me what the problem was (corruption of the COMPONENTS hive?) or if it is likely to reoccur?

Anyway, I'm really happy to have it back working normally again. Thanks again :smile9:

A previous update was partially installed and some components were missing. I used the COMPONENTS hive to find the update in question.

Glad to have helped.
