Hi there!

I haven't been able to update to Win7 SP1, I just get an 800F0900 error. Tried clean boot, malwarebytes scan, Check Disk, System File Checker, and SURT. Found that KB2977759 was corrupt in the CheckSUR file. How do I replace it? Any help would be appreciated!

-Chris

Hello Chris and welcome to the forum :)

I have had a quick look for these files and I have been able to find older versions that the ones you need and also newer ones than what you need. I should hopefully be able to trace these files for you soon.

Alex

Alex I don't know how far you got with hunting down this update but I know v2 is 6.1.2.0 and v4 is 6.1.4.4 so I'm almost certain we need v3 :) Now for the tricky bit, finding it! It was only out for 24 days before v4 was pushed so this could be tricky.

Well I know the URL is this:

http://au.download.windowsupdate.com/c/msdownload/update/software/updt/2014/11/windows6.1-kb2977759-v3-x64-express-{40 A-Za-z0-9 characters}.msu

Now to try the 178,689,910,246,017,054,531,432,477,289,437,798,228,285,773,001,601,743,140,683,776 URLs :p Apparently that's 178 novemdecillion, aka enormous lol.

Oh don't try it, sorry I should've mentioned it. I posted the link so that Alex could catalog the files from it - we maintain offline copies of the various packages and payload files from all the updates in case we ever need them and when updates are pulled (like here), the old versions are very precious for cases just like these. In your case we need V3 and I have absolutely no idea how we're going to find it, I've tried everything approach I usually do to find these and it just isn't showing up at all.

Actually, having said that can you upload this log for us please? There's a very slim chance it will contain the answer:

C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log

Tom

Damn, nothing there of use. It was a long shot, this was released a long time ago. Let's just hope Alex has more luck than I did!

I am not having any luck.

Could you please go to C:\Windows\servicing\Packages run a search for KB2977759, copy all the files you have found to your desktop, add these files into a zip file and attach the zip file to your next post.

The .cat file is in tact, I wonder If there is a way to recreate the .mum file?

Can you please go the following location C:\Windows\System32\config and look for the following files:
-COMPONENTS
-Any other files that start with the word COMPONENTS
-Or any files that have a similar name to COMPONENTS (it could be spelt different, have a number, a symbol etc)
If you find any please create a folder on your desktop and copy and paste all these files into this folder.
Next can you please zip this folder and upload them for me to analyze? The file may be too big to attach to this post, please use either Dropbox or One Drive.

  1. Click on the Start
    Start%20Orb.jpg
button and in the search box, type regedit
  2. When you see regedit on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When regedit opens, using the left pane, navigate to the following registry key and select it by clicking on it once.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing

  4. Once selected, click File > Export....
  5. Change the Save as type: to Registry Hive Files (*.*)
  6. Name this file CBS (with no file extension) and save it to your Desktop.

Once done please upload this file via Dropbox or One Drive

Sorry Chris, I cant get the file to be the way it needs to be.

Can you try and uninstall update KB2977759 from Add/Remove programs?

KB2977759 is not listed in my Add/Remove Programs, and when Windows update tries to install that one (it is listed in my available updates) it fails to install with a generic 800F0900 error.
