Hello,

since March update I started receiving the error 0x80073712 from windows update.

I started looking around to various solutions I found and nothing worked.

SFC and DISM returned errors.

At a certain point I restored windows to a previous backup point and SFC and DISM were fine.

So it seems like the windows update corrupts something.

The only thing I am missing to do is the windows upgrade in place.

I saw errors in the DISM.LOG and CBS.LOG but could not understand what to do.

I see other posts with same problem here, but it seems the solution is always customized on the user's pc.

Can you please help me ?

thanks,
Cisco

I followed the steps here : Windows Update Forum Posting Instructions

but could not go after step 3 and :

1) Sfc /scannow

Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation

2)
Ran sfcfix and it hangs at Stage3 for which the DISM stops at 4.5% and returns error 14098

I attach the dism.log in a zip and also the cbs.log

thanks

Hi cisco75

Apologies for the delay. Are you still requiring assistance?

Hi

Please do the following.

Retrieve Components Hive
1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
2. Please copy this file to your desktop.
Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
3. Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
4. The file will likely be too large to upload here so please upload to a file sharing service. Examples of services to upload to are Dropbox or OneDrive or SendSpace and then just provide the link in your reply.

hello,

today the new windows 10 2004 version appeared in my windows update and I managed to install it.

Olders updates I could not install are now not showing anymore.

So I would say it is solved now.

thanks :)

just found a solution that worked for me here : RDP scaling 4k – Ridimensionamento sessioni RDP

cd %systemroot%\system32
copy mstsc.exe mstsc2.exe
cd %systemroot%\system32\it-it\
copy mstsc.exe.mui mstsc2.exe.mui

reg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\Layers" /t REG_SZ /v "C:\Windows\System32\mstsc2.exe" /d "~ DPIUNAWARE" /f

then right click on mstsc2.exe
go in the compatibility task
select Compatibility Mode (in my case Win7)

and it worked, now resolution is fine.
