Hello,

My system is Microsoft Windows 7 Service Pack 1 - x86. This laptop is used as a backup for watching movies on the TV and recently it started to glitch and I ran chkdsk /f /r which discovered a few bad sector.

The laptop works but sfc shows that there is definitely some missing system files and at times at the laptop will completely lose sound and become sluggish. I tried updating and reinstalling the drivers but the problem persist.

I have attached the scans logs below.

Hopefully you can assist me in replacing the missing files.

Thanks

Well done.

Follow the instructions below to run a scan with the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) and provide a log.
  1. Download SURT for your system. (Windows 7 SP1 x86)
  2. Once downloaded, execute the installer, and go through the installation (this process can take around 15-20 minutes).
  3. On completion, a log will be created in C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log.
  4. Attach this log to your next reply.
Alternatively, if these instructions are unclear for you, you can follow the tutorial below.

Sorry for the late reply.

Yesterday after I run your Fix, I restarted the laptop but unfortunately now it is stuck on a BSOD.
Windows repair says it is a disk error, I am now running chkdsk /r again.

I will post the result of the SURT test as soon as I can log back into it.

Hello,

Managed to finally logged back in. Started to backup my data as it seems the disk may be at the end of its life.

Complete your backup first.
Next, let's have a look at the chkdsk result.

Download ListChkdskResult.exe by SleepyDude and save it on your desktop.
Rightclick

ListChkdskResult.exe and select Run as administrator. Notepad will open the file ListChkdskResult.txt on completion. (The file ListChkdskResult.txt can be found on your desktop.)
Copy and paste its content in your next reply.

Hello Peter,

Once I was in yesterday, it was quite unstable even after the SURT return no errors. I proceeded to backup my files and formatted the drive.

Went back to Win 7 again x64 (Clean install) this time but the system was still unstable and even getting stuck on loading screen.

As I am typing this, am running windows update on Win10 x64 (Another clean install) and for whatever reason, the system is *currently* smooth. Will be updating drivers and see if there is any sign of a bad disk or sudden drop in performance.

Thanks for the help but I lost the battle with the win7. Will keep you updated if something manifest on this OS but unsure if it would fall under my initial reason I came here.

I proceeded to backup my files and formatted the drive.
If the drive is failing a format doesn't help.
If we need to look closer at the drive just ask.
