Hi guys, this one has me stumped I have tried repairing using a mounted image via DISM as I had done ion the past using a tech bench iso to resolve a power shell corruption. Thing is repairs say successfull but when I run sfc /SCANNOW it fails. I checked the cbs logs and it seems to be a hash mismatch but i really dont know how to fix this one.

Apologies If I uploaded wrong but the cbs file is 17mbs so I zipped it. I followed the directions for SFCFix it found nothing but sfc scan keeps failing as I mentioned

Hello and Welcome!

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put

tags around the log to break up the text.

Step 2 - SFC Scan

  1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search.
    (If you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, and then click Search.)
  2. Type cmd in the search box, and then right-click or press and hold on Command Prompt.
  3. Tap or click Run as administrator.
  4. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    sfc /scannow

    Wait for this to finish before you continue

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt
  5. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please zip up and attach this to your next post.

Okay have done so will run sfc scan now and hopefully all is well

EDIT: Nice!!! I can't thank you enough zcomputerwiz. That did it Windows did not find any integrity violations, scan ran clear :thumbsup2:

I think we're good, I can't thank you enough, this drove me nuts over the weekend, I don't understand what happens but the last time it was a powershell problem that I eventually fixed by targeting the wim file on a Tech Bench ISO. This seems to happen when big updates come along. I'm not sure if its my hardware. I am still using an Asus sabertooth Z77 Motherboard with a 3770K, maybe it just doesn't play nice with it as my laptop is didn't have any problems.

Let's check your disk health, just to be sure.

GSmartControl
Follow the instructions below to test your hard drive health with GSmartControl:

  • Download GSmartControl and save it on your Desktop;
  • Extract the content of the GSmartControl .zip archive and execute gsmartcontrol.exe; To extract you can right-click your mouse on the GSmartControl.zip file and select Extract.
  • Identify your drive in the list, and double-click on it to bring up it's window (usually you'll find your drive by it's size or it's brand name);
  • Go in the Perform Tests tab, then select Extended Self-test in the Test type drop-down list and click on Execute (this test can take a few hours to complete);
  • Once the test is over, the results will be displayed at the bottom of the window. Please copy and paste these results in your next reply;
  • Also, go in the Attributes tab and if you have any entries highlighted in red or pink, copy and paste their name in your next reply (or take a screenshot of the GSmartControl window and attach it in your next reply);

Oh I have multiple drives, windows is on my Samsung 850 SSD, I will do so when I get home this evening.

Ah. Since you have an SSD that will not be required :)

Good to know, I'm still puzzled as to the cause, I cant imagine it being the overclock as it's been rock solid stable for several years now. I never seen any such issues until windows 10. I'll try run memtest in the morning maybe. I have windows installed on a gpt partition if that matters.
