Apologies for the delay in returning to the forum. I found that Windows 10 was trying to download to my pc but I managed to stop it for now until my problem is hopefully resolved.

I don't know how it happened but my last use of sfc /scannow returns no integrity problems and SFCFix found no corruption - I am only left with this important update problem now.

SFCFix version 2.4.5.0 by niemiro.
Start time: 2015-07-31 22:42:52.360
Microsoft Windows 7 Service Pack 1 - amd64
Not using a script file.

I think I am having trouble in uploading attached CBS files?

Best regards,
Ray

Sorry about that :P

I'll need the CheckSUR log if you have already run the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT), if not follow these instructions:

System Update Readiness Tool (SURT)

Download and run the System Update Readiness Tool for your version of Windows here: System Update Readiness Tool

This tool will take some time to complete - when it has finished, attach C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log with your reply.

I am somewhat alarmed now to see that I have 37 problems listed in my Event Viewer, all dated today. Top of the list is the Update failure one I've posted below for more info.

Run the Windows Update Components Reset Fix-It here:https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/971058
Be sure to select aggressive mode when offered.

When the fix it completes, restart your computer and check for updates. This will take much longer than usual.
If KB2564958 is offered, try to install it. If it fails, include the error code and C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log and C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log with your reply.

If CBS.log is too large to attach, copy it to your desktop then right click and choose Send To -> Compressed (zipped) Folder
If it is still too large to attach, use a file sharing service such as OneDrive, DropBox, or SendSpace to upload the file and share the link here.

Hi zcomputerwiz!

Did as you recommended - no aggressive mode available on that WUC Components Reset Fix-it by the way. Tried downloading Win updates but only one installed - this was for my MSE programme. The KB2564958 still won't install. Error code this time is: 80246007 with text: "Windows Update encountered an unknown problem." Getting quite tired now so am off for some shut-eye. All the best, Ray

Hi zcomputerwiz

Just to let you know that I began getting various other errors other than the Windows Update ones so, in some desperation, I took the bull by the horns and did a second repair (upgrade version) of my Windows SP1 x64 bit OS. I can now say that my pc is 'firing on all cylinders' again and all 203updates are safely installed. I've done a SFC /scannow followed by the SFCFix.exe and all is well, so I can retire tonight and sleep much better. The problems were really getting me down!!

Many thanks for all the help you afforded me and I wish you every success in your chosen profession.

Kind regards and best wishes.

Ray

Sometimes a repair install is the way to go :)
Thanks for the update.

I'll mark the thread as solved.
