Gary was very helpful in getting cumulative updates installed on my server in my last post. Unfortunately, this has come up with April 2024 cumulative updates just today. Getting the same error message.

Attached my CBS.log.

Thank you

Sorry to hear you're having problems.

  • Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
  • Please copy this file to your desktop.
  • Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
  • Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
  • The file will likely be too large to upload here, if so please upload to a file sharing service.
  • Examples of services to upload to are WeTransfer and TransferKit and SendFileOnline

Please post me the link to the file

No problem, from what I've seen in your log so far, the problem is still related to the japanese language package, but different items to the ones we fixed last time.

Just need to have a look at the current state of your COMPONENTS hive before doing anything.

May take me a while to look it over, and it's getting late where I am, so probably tomorrow morning before I get back to you.

WARNING! The following fix is specific to the user's system in this thread only. No one else should follow these instructions, as it could damage your system.

  • Download SFCFix.exe and save it to your desktop.
  • Download the attachment SFCFix.zip and also save it on your desktop.
  • Save any work you have open, and close all programs.
  • Drag the SFCFix.zip file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it.
1p8eDnI.gif

  • SFCFix will launch, let it complete.
  • Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt
  • Open the file, then copy and paste its content in your next reply.

Next ...

  • Click Search button and type Command Prompt
  • From the results, right click on the Command Prompt icon, and select Run as administrator
  • A Command Window will open.
  • Copy paste the command below into it, then press Enter
  • Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  • Once DISM has finished running ...
    • Please attach your ... C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\cbs.log ... to your next reply.
  • If the file is too large, upload it to a file sharing service, and post me the link.
  • Examples of services to upload to are WeTransfer and TransferKit and SendFileOnline

Please try updating your computer.

If successful please let me know.

If not, please post the CBS.log created after your update attempt.

That appeared to do it (I think). It let me install the update. Upon reboot, it stayed on the 100% Complete update screen (See Attached 1) for a LONG while, then rebooted again.

Gave me a message about updates not being applied. Went into Update History and see that the update failed (See attachment 2)

However, on subsequent check for updates, it does not show up. (See attachment 3)

Maybe it was already applied and didn't know it or something. I will keep tabs on it (Maybe have to wait until May Cumulative updates to see if they go through successfully) and will report back.

Once again, Thank you Gary. Much appreciated as before!!!!!!!!

I'd like to check to see what updates you have installed on your machine, just as a check.

Please do the following ....

  • Click on search and type ... Command
    • Select Command Prompt
    • Select Run as Administrator
  • Allow any UAC prompt
  • Now copy/paste the following command to the command prompt ....
  • wmic qfe list > "%userprofile%\desktop\updatelist.txt"
  • Hit Enter
  • Close the Command Prompt Window
  • A file named updatelist.txt should be on your desktop.
  • Please post it, or attach it to your next reply.

    • Zip and attach the file C:\Windows\\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

Will do. I will do this tonight (after work hours). Will reply back on the results. Thank you Gary!

You're welcome.

Talk to you later.

The update was successful. Rebooted Server. Successfully rebooted. Took a while to apply update.

Is there anything else you wanted to try before we wait for May CUs?

Much appreciated Gary!

No, I think you're good to go, and hopefully your May update should go smoothly.

You're welcome. Glad we could help.
