OS: Windows Server 2008 R2 /w Exchange 2010 SP1
Issue: Trying to view Roles/Features in Server Manager or trying to view/add Roles/Features via the server manager module in Powershell fails and will not work.
Error Message: Unexpected error refreshing Server Manager: The referenced assembly is not installed on your system. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800736B3)

I have run SFC /Scannow. It came back clean.
I have run SURT. It did not fix anything.

I have tried running SFCFix. However this hangs at the Checking store directories phase and will not pass it. I have left it to run for 8+ hours with no change.

Attached is CBS and CheckSur logs as requested.

I can see an issue with KB2750841 but cannot uninstall or reinstall this Windows Update.

Replies may take up to 24 hours as I cannot reboot this server until late at night.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Hi and welcome to Sysnative. Sorry for the delay. There are three deployment keys missing for the update you mentioned had an issue. Let's fix those.

Code:
(f) CSI Missing Deployment Key 0x00000000 b4409e5b805..d39c4483c8d_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7601.17964_83b63eaec7410426 HKLM\Components\CanonicalData\Deployments
(f) CSI Missing Deployment Key 0x00000000 52437e4130b..522a8b4766d_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7601.17964_c503f45beed3db41 HKLM\Components\CanonicalData\Deployments

Please do the following.

Step#1 - SFCFix Script
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.
  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop. If you still have this on your desktop from downloading previously, you don't need to re-download.
  2. Download the file below, SFCScript.txt, and save this to your Desktop.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCScript.txt.
  5. Drag the file SFCScript.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please

After this, please run SURT again and provide the CheckSUR.log.

Thanks. Please do the following so I can confirm the issue.

1. Click the Start button and type Powershell.
2. Right-click on Windows PowerShell that comes up in the search results and select Run as administrator. Allow the UAC prompt if it comes up.
3. Copy/Paste the following into the command prompt window and hit enter.

4. A text file named output.txt should be on your desktop. Please attach this to your next reply.

Hi BrianDrab,

I have run the command. However it also fails and outputs a blank txt file. As such I havn't attached it. Attached is pictures of the error from Server Manager as well as the Error from powershell when trying to run commands against the server manager module. Also attached is the error in event logs.

Hi BrianDrab,

I have run the script and rerun SURT. SURT comes back clean now. I am still receiving the exact same issues in Powershell, Event Logs and Server Manager. I will restart the server tonight and report back if that helps.

There's more we need to fix. Please do the following.

Code:

Then repeat the steps in Post#6. If you get an error, please zip up and attach the current CBS.log.

Thanks.

Hi BrianDrab,

I have applied the fix. Exact same errors as described in Post #7. I have rebooted the server and retested. Same results.

Attached are the SFCFix Results. Along with Fresh CheckSur.log and CBS.log files after running SURT.

No need to reboot until we get the missing packages replaced. We may go back and forth a few times before it will work. Please do the following.

Code:

I need to gather more info on this one.

Thanks. Please do the following.

Retrieve Components/Software Hives
Note: The Software have has confidential and sensitive information in it so please send me a PM with a link to that particular hive so it's not in the public form.
  • Please download the Freeware RegBak from here: Acelogix Software - Download products
You will find it at the bottom of the page that the link brings you to.
  • Go ahead and install this program and accept all the defaults. After the last install screen the program should open.
  • Click the New Backup button. Accept the defaults and simply click Start.
  • When it says Finished successfully, click the Close button.
  • This will bring you back to the main screen of the program. You will see one entry in this list with the date that you did it. Right-click on this line-item and select Explore Backup...
  • This will bring you into the folder where the backup was made. You should see a Users folder and a Windows folder along with a couple other files. Double-click on the Windows folder to open it. Then open the System32 folder and then config folder. You should see around 6 files in here, two of which are named COMPONENTS and SOFTWARE.
  • Copy these two files to your Desktop. If the COMPONENTS file does not exist, please fetch it instead from C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS.
  • Now right click on these files on your desktop and select Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder.
  • Then please upload the zip file(s) to your favourite file sharing website (it will be too big to upload here). Examples of services to upload to are Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and then just provide the link in your reply.
  • You can close any open windows you have as well as the RegBack program now.

Hi BrianDrab,

I have uploaded those 2 registry parts to sendspace. Link is <removed>
