Can Not Get Updates

I am running Windows 7 and Microsoft Windows Update suddenly can't check for updates. I have run the Microsoft Fix It program as well as the System Fix file. None of this seems to help. I am trying to get help with this error code 80070246. I've searched everywhere online and can't seem to get anything to fix this. I think it is causing problems trying to upgrade to Windows 10 as well but that's a separate issue. One problem at a time.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put [CODE][/CODE] tags around the log to break up the text.

I have not really run any tests on this machine. I had bought it from a pawn shop and it has been giving me problems since day 1. So I haven't used it much which is why I'm finally sucking it up and trying to fix it now :lol:. I need my computer! :grin1:

I just opened up windows update after running this just to see and it appears to be working now. It could actually search for and found updates I needed. Can i ask exactly what fixed this? Just want to have a better understanding of computers bit by bit...?
 
After spending most of my night installing updates 1 at a time the only one I can't seem to get to download properly is the sp1 update
