Can a Google Sheets file be opened with Mac Numbers?

I have an Excel spreadsheet of household expenses that I saved as a Google Sheets file. I would like to share it with my wife who uses a Macbook Pro. Will she be able to open, read, edit and save while keeping it a Google Sheets file? I could do a test but I would like to know before I begin.

Follow-up question: If I share it in my Google Drive will she be able to make a desktop shortcut to it on her Macbook even thought the file is in my Google Drive?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

All of the Google suite of "office equivalent programs" are web based and can run on any platform.

You can absolutely share a file or folder with another person. You may not be able to do a "send to, desktop, create shortcut" for it but you can manually create a desktop shortcut "in the Mac way" by hand.

It actually makes a lot more sense for her to be using Google Drive as well, where the shared file would be resident, and constantly opening it from there rather than a desktop shortcut.
