Hello,
for quite a while now I could not download or install important updates. The download shows that 0 kbs have been download and the installation fails every time.
For different updates these errors codes appear: 80242014, 8007371C and 800703F1. I`ve tried different approaches I found on the internet like the one with
--> sfc /scannow
--> DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth
--> DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

or clearing the
C:\Windows\SoftwareDistibutions\Downloads folder.

I also ran some recommended oneclick programms like
WindowsUpdateDiagnostic, winUpdRestore!v28 and pcwUpdateRepair but none of them helped me after several restarts the update history still showed that all updates failed.

The CBS folder is in the attachments. (It`s a rar because my zip would have been too large.)
Hope you can help me
Sincerely
Henrik

P.S. I do not know if it is a coincidence or not but I also cant install .NET Framework 3.5 and get the Error code 0x800703F1

Well no one answered yet, but I can add to the problem that when I tried to add the DirectPlay Feature the 800703F1 error happened as well.

Edit: If you guys do not have time to look at my problem do you have any other idea for me what to do? Because I guess that not being able to update my OS is a security issue which should be resolved.

Hi Henrik,

Sorry for the delay. Let's get some more logs.

SFCFix AutoAnalysis

  1. Download SFCFix.exe and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  3. Double click on SFCFix.exe to open it.
  4. Follow all on screen instructions and upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  5. Copy (Ctrl + C) and Paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please.

Then can you zip up and upload the following log as well: C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log

No worries. I need to take a look at your COMPONENTS hive, so here's the easiest way to upload it to me.

SFCFix COMPONETS Collection

  1. Download SFCFix.exe using the following link and save the tool to your Desktop: [sfcfixdownload]Download SFCFix[/sfcfixdownload]
  2. Download SFCFix.txt and save this to your Desktop as well: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u...s/~Generic/Collect/COMPONENTS/SFCFix.txt?dl=1
  3. On your Desktop, you should now see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.txt.
  4. Drag the file SFCFix.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  5. SFCFix will now begin to upload your COMPONENTS hive to our server.

Kind regards,
Stephen

Thanks for that.

As I suspected, there is a corruption somewhere in your COMPONENTS hive, as shown by attempting to open it in regedit:

The COMPONENTS hive is responsible for controlling and recording Windows Update related activities, so a corruption in there doesn't really affect anything besides Windows Update (well, there are a few situations, but they're not so common).

I'm going to need a bit of time to look over the hive and assess the damage. If you haven't heard back in 72 hours or more, feel free to bump the thread.

OK. So you think my other issues with activating features do not relate to the Windows Update one?

I'm still here, but need to consult another expert about this issue because it's being elusive (or I'm just being blind!)

Stephen

OK Thank you for your time anyway :) Do you have any idea how that could have happened?
