Hi all.

First off, thanks for taking your time to read about my issue(s).

I have never experienced BSODs before, so this came as a surprise.

All of a sudden, I started receiving them with different stopcodes each time.

These has so far been:

- CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED (one of the more common ones)
- UNEXPECTED_STORE_EXCEPTION
- KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR
- SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION

And quite frankly, I don't know what to do.

INFORMATION

OS - Windows 10, 8.1, 8, 7, Vista ?

Windows 10. Version 1903. OS Build 18362.267

x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit)?
64-bit

What was the originally installed OS on the system?
Windows 10

Is the OS an OEM version (came pre-installed on system) or full retail version (YOU purchased it from retailer)?
Windows was installed on the system when I bought it.

Age of system (hardware)
CPU - 1 year~
GPU - 2 years 6 months~
Motherboard - 1 year 2 months~
PSU - 9 months~
RAM - 2 years 6 months~
Storage(SSD+HDD) - 2 years 6 months~

Age of OS installation - have you re-installed the OS?
I have reinstalled the OS one day ago(4th of August, 2019), to hopefully fix the issue but to no avail. The method used was through a Bootable USB created with the Windows Media Creation Tool.

CPU
i7-8700k (No overclocking has ever been done)

Video Card
ASUS ROG STRIX 8GB 1070

MotherBoard - (if NOT a laptop)
ASUS ROG Z370-H

Power Supply - brand & wattage (if laptop, skip this one)
Seasonic PRIME Ultra 750 W Titanium (SSR-750TR) (SSR-750TR)

System Manufacturer
Custom

Exact model number (if laptop, check label on the bottom)
N/A

Laptop or Desktop?
Desktop

SO FAR I HAVE DONE THE FOLLOWING

- Reinstalled Windows (Clean install)
- Controlled SSD through SanDisk SSD Dashboard and SSDLife Pro
- Controlled HDD through HDTune, SeaTools and Hirens HDD diagnostics
- Controlled RAM through MemTest86 (one stick at a time)
- Thorough physical inspection of hardware components to eliminate the possibility of cable mismanagement
- Controlled system files through: sfc /scannow
- Further control of disk through command DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /Scan(+restore)health (First Scanhealth, then Restorehealth)

ADDITIONAL INFO

The BSODs appear in random intervals. My system is for reasons unknown to me not able to generate dump files for further analysis. I have attempted to fix this by controlling the pagefile, and the Start Up and Recovery Settings.

I hope any one out there can make some sense into this as I feel like I've tried all that I can.

Once again, thank you for reading about my problem.

Kind regards,
Asheroc

Hello Asheroc and welcome to Sysnative!

Did you keep copies of the crash dump files from the previous OS installation and can you share them? Otherwise we will need to wait until you get a new BSOD and you can then post up the crash dump file or rerun the sysnative file collection app.

In the meantime there is a newer BIOS you can install for your motherboard. This can often help with system stability.

Hi Philc43.

Thanks for your reply.

Unfortunately, I was never able to generate any crash dump files, not even on the old system. The BSOD screen would always just get stuck at 0% and never write any logs.

I'll try and install the newest BIOS update and report back.

Regards

Hi.

So the BIOS update went through succesfully.

I have not yet encountered a BSOD, however, instead of the BSODs I now get total system freeze where the only thing that can fix it, is a hard reboot.

Could this possibly indicate faulty hardware?

Regards

Post another set of logfiles and we can try and see if anything shows up in the error logs. Hardware faults would be high on the list of possibilities but we could do with a bit more information. What triggers the freeze? Does it happen when system is idle? Does it happen in safe mode?

Hi Phil.

I just edited my previous post with a newer set of data from the BSOD collection app.

My system uptime was around the 3 hour mark with no issues while being idle.

However, I just opened up a game of Overwatch and the freeze happened.

I was alt-tabbing quite a bit, to monitor temps and whatnot, so the freezes seem to happen when there is some activity happening on the system.

I have not tested Safe Mode yet.

Regards

I would suggest you do some further monitoring - temperatures could be spiking and causing a freeze. You can perform a number of hardware tests if you want to push your system to see if it triggers the problem. Some examples are Prime95, Furmark etc. Have a look at the hardware tutorials section

I always keep HWInfo open on my secondary monitor to monitor my temps.

My CPU usually stays within 30-35 degrees celsius on idle, 40-45 while gaming and around 60 degrees celcius when I multitask + gaming.
My GPU never exceeds 63 degrees celsius, but has a fairly high idle temp(54-55 degrees celsius) due to embarrasing airflow (the Noctua NH-D15 forced me to move my graphics card down into the second slot).

But I'll definitely have a look into Prime95 and run a test to see if that triggers it.

Thanks for your suggestion. I really appreciate it.

Regards

Just reporting back after running a few instances of CineBench for CPU and Furmark for GPU.

None of these seemed to trigger a system freeze.

Regards

Unfortunately not. I also encountered a freezing problem earlier when I was watching YouTube videos, and again, playing around in different tabs, you know, the general multitasking. Not under heavy load whatsoever. The freezes seem to appear when I attempt to do multiple things at once.

I would encourage you to rerun memtest86, make sure you complete 4 passes. It's not the most reliable of tests but if you get an error you can be sure it points to faulty RAM. Unfortunately if it passes it does not always mean your RAM is OK.

Hi MrPepka. I sure will read into that as instead of a freeze encountered another BSOD with the stopcode: CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED.

This happened while reading an article on chrome.

Regards

Just an update after a potential fix has been found:

Following advice from another forum member, I changed to an old SSD that I had lying around.
I reinstalled Windows on that drive and I have been running successfully for atleast 3 hours without any BSODs or system freezes.

Will continue to monitor and mark as Solved if no crash occurs within the next 24 hours

Kind regards
