BSOD with various messages, Kmode_exception_not_handled, among others. - Windows 8.1

Hello, recently I've been getting a lot of system crashes and they are often different messages. If it helps I get them the most when I play World of Warcraft. I get a lot of kmode_exception_not_handled ones and tonight I got one I haven't seen that said the kmode, but had (intelppm.sys) at the end.

I don't know what to do. I tried to follow the directions here in the tutorial, but the program didn't make the zip file like it says it was supposed to and the other step in the command prompt wouldn't work either.

I am updated everywhere I can find to update and am using Windows 8.1

I also regularly run Malwarebytes, anitvirus checks, CCleaner runs, Registry cleaners, etc...

Please help me..

You regularly run Registry Cleaners?! Since you also regularly run CCleaner, I'm in doubt if any dump files are even saved now. Please refrain from running any 'cleaning' programs during the debugging process.

Could you please check this directory:

C:\Windows\Minidump

Zip and upload any existing dump files.

There are 3 files there, but when I try to zip them I get "File not found or no read permission". I checked and my user account is still admin and the files are definitely there, I just can't access them. Obviously something going on?

I downloaded WinZip and used that and it made a zip file that I couldn't upload to this thread using the file attachment here. It said this:


The file itself has no data no matter what I do. The 3 source files do have data but I can't seem to access them or move or copy them.
What next?

You need to copy/paste the crash dumps from C:\ to Desktop if Windows is throwing a perm error.

On a side note, is there a reason why there are files that I don't have permission to if I am the admin and only user on the computer?

It's a Windows 8 UAC/C:\ permissions issue, not entirely sure. I cannot directly reference anything from C:\ unless I escalate privilege.

You have some bloatware installed with extremely buggy drivers, so remove all of the following:

- Wondershare Virtual Audio.

- AiCharger.sys is listed and loaded in the modules list which is the Asus Charger driver. It's included in many Asus bloatware, which you appear to have installed. Please go ahead and uninstall any and all Asus software as it's unnecessary bloatware.

Ensure you have the latest video card drivers. If you are already on the latest video card drivers, uninstall and install a version or a few versions behind the latest to ensure it's not a latest driver only issue. If you have already experimented with the latest video card driver and many previous versions, please give the beta driver for your card a try. Afterwards, navigate to services.msc and disable the nVidia Streaming Service, and then restart the computer.

I couldn't find the Wondershare Virtual Audio anywhere on my computer, but I am uninstalling all of the ASUS programs right now.

As for the video card drivers, I've never understood why there are two cards that are not connected. I have an Intel HD 4000 and an Nvidia card as well. Not sure why or if they are conflicting. I have had problems with updating the intel drivers but not the Nvidia one. Is that normal?

Breaking the driver from loading will work for now. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Drivers and rename Apowersoft_AudioDevice.sys to Apowersoft_AudioDevice.old, and then restart.

You have what's known as dual graphics. The Intel GPU is likely used for OS stuff (non 3D, etc) and the nVidia is likely used when 3D apps are revved up. That's generally how it goes. Ensure you have the latest drivers for both, which again should be provided by Dell. If you had problems, what kind?

Nothing too big, I've just had trouble with the intel updater software recognizing my computer when I do an autoscan for updates.

A lot of those auto update apps are pretty poor. I just always recommend going straight to the website even if one of those is available to you from the manufacturer.

I uninstalled and reinstalled drivers for my Intel HD 4000 graphics card and also my Nvidia card. The HD 4000 driver is from 9/2013 and there is a newer, generic one from Intel available, but my machine won't let me install it. I've tried the exe file and also the zip file doing it manually. My system will not accept it because it says it is up to date for my system.

I've also included the latest minidump files from last night and also my dxdiag system information. I've done everything else it says to do here and still getting crashes. Please help.

Did you try entirely uninstalling the current 4000 driver and then restarting before attempting to install the one from Intel?

So since I have two GPUs, can I just disable the faulty one and run on the other?

It's weird because everything is technically working, it is just crashing sporadically. If my GPU was bad wouldn't it just not work at all?

I would recommend that, considering it'll just get worse over time (as most faulty hardware does). However, there's a lot of WS (working set) corruption, so please run Memtest for no less than 8 passes just to be sure this isn't a RAM issue:

Which should I download?

You can either download the pre-compiled .ISO that you would burn to a CD and then boot from the CD, or you can download the auto-installer for the USB key. What this will do is format your USB drive, make it a bootable device, and then install the necessary files. Both do the same job, it's just up to you which you choose, or which you have available (whether it's CD or USB).

Do note that some older generation motherboards do not support USB-based booting, therefore your only option is CD (or Floppy if you really wanted to).

How Memtest works (you don't need to read, it's only for those interested in the specifics):

Memtest uses algorithms (specifically two), namely moving inversion & what is deemed Modulo-X. Essentially, the first algorithm fills the memory with a pattern. Starting at the low address, it checks to see if the pattern was changed (it should not have been), writes the patterns complement, increments the address, and repeats. Starting at the highest address (as opposed to the lowest), it follows the same checklist.

The reason for the second algorithm is due to a few limitations, with the first being that not all adjacent cells are being tested for interaction due to modern chips being 4 to 16 bits wide regarding data storage. With that said, patterns are used to go ahead and ensure that all adjacent cells have at least been written with all possible one and zero combinations.

The second is that caching, buffering and out of order execution will interfere with the moving inversions algorithm. However, the second algorithm used is not affected by this. For starting offsets of 0-20, the algorithm will write every 20th location with a pattern, write all other locations with the patterns complement, repeat the previous one (or more) times, and then check every 20th location for the previously mentioned pattern.

Now that you know how Memtest actually works, it's important to know that the tests it goes through all mean something different. It goes from Test 0 through Test 12, many of which use either one or the other algorithm discussed above, among many other things.

My next question is, if it is the GPU, is uninstalling the driver and deleting the entry from the device manager all I have to do to stop my computer from using it?
