Hi There

I'm running my windows 7 64bit on my Sony Vaio VPCS135FG with Core I3. Experienced BSOD long time ago, as well as slow performance.
I recently upgraded my RAM to 8GB, and switch to 128GB SSD, but BSOD persists. I'm afraid it might be because of the USB contact interface (where u plug the external devices into usb gate??), so maybe hardware problems? But i'm not sure, so I decided to try to ask for help here.

I tried to run the verifier, but i got BSOD right after restart, so i had to restore my system.

Please take a look and help me. TIA

Hi,

There are no DMP files located in your jcgriff2 output folder. This is actually an okay scenario to be in here as we can take a different route based off of the bugcheck you're getting. The specific type of bugcheck you're getting is relatively difficult to debug with only a Minidump, and as we have none, let's go ahead and get us a Kernel-Dump.

1. Go here to see how to set one up - Creating a Kernel-Mode Dump File (Windows Debuggers)

2. Once you crash, upload the Kernel (path is C:\Windows with the name MEMORY.DMP) to any site such as Onedrive, Dropbox, etc, and paste it here.

Regards,

Patrick

Thank you. Here is the link to my minidump file: https://www.dropbox.com/s/xt1vuyaclb0n8y7/032414-44709-01.dmp

Thanks!

The attached DMP file is of the BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER (fe) bug check.

This indicates that an error has occurred in a universal serial bus (USB) driver.

BugCheck FE, {8, 6, 5, fffffa800cfcdb20}

^^ Parameter 1 has a value of 8 and Parameter 2 has a value of 6, this implies that Parameter 3 is a time-out code. In your case, 0x5 indicates that the USB driver timed out waiting for a suspend-port request to complete.

1. Uninstall Connectify.

2. Uninstall Bkav Antivirus ASAP and replace it with Microsoft Security Essentials as it may be causing conflicts - Microsoft Security Essentials - Microsoft Windows

3. Ensure your USB drivers are up to date via Sony's website - Sony eSupport - Drivers & Software Updates - Select a Model

Patrick

Thank you
1. Done (actually i got this prob long before i used connectify)
2. I dont see my computer has Microsoft Security Essentials, but i'd try to uninstall the BKAV
3. Could you please clarify for me, what is a USB driver? I actually do have experience in installing drivers all over again after re-install windows, but usb driver from Sony website seems weird for me.

#2. You don't have MSE installed, I am recommending you uninstall BKAV and then afterwards replace it with MSE.

#3. When you search by your model #, and then go to drivers, there should be an option for USB drivers, is there not?

Patrick

Great!

I just checked that page and you are indeed correct, no recent up to date USB drivers. Not a problem, keep me updated with what we've done so far.

Dear Partrick
I still got the problem with BSOD saying "USB_BUGCODE_DRIVE".
I check the Minidump folder, but nothing is recorded there.
What should i do? Could it be "Hardware" problem?

Possibly, yes. Can you please check the following:

If your computer is not generating .DMP files, please do the following:

1. Windows key + Pause key. This should bring up System. Click Advanced System Settings on the left > Advanced > Performance > Settings > Advanced > Ensure there's a check-mark for 'Automatically manage paging file size for all drives'.

2. Windows key + Pause key. This should bring up System. Click Advanced System Settings on the left > Advanced > Startup and Recovery > Settings > System Failure > ensure there is a check mark next to 'Write an event to the system log'.

Ensure Small Memory Dump is selected and ensure the path is %systemroot%\Minidump.

3. Double check that the WERS is ENABLED:

Start > Search > type services.msc > Under the name tab, find Windows Error Reporting Service > If the status of the service is not Started then right click it and select Start. Also ensure that under Startup Type it is set to Automatic rather than Manual. You can do this by right clicking it, selecting properties, and under General selecting startup type to 'Automatic', and then click Apply.

Regards,

Patrick
