BSOD on new build

Hi all, please see attached required files and the below info on my new PC build:

OS - Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit. Purchased OEM version. Used previously on older PC I built and didn't want to repurchase for this build.

Bought parts brand new in mid June and built PC on June 30 this year. Hardware installed:
PSU - Silverstone Strider Plus 600W
CPU - Intel Core i5 3550
MOBO - Gigabyte GA-H77M-D3H
Video - Gigabyte Radeon HD7750

I was getting a BSOD once or twice a week and the message coming up was IRQL not less than equal and then I got one that said "attempt to reset the display driver and recover from timeout failed". I did run an update driver for the graphics card early last week and I thought the problem was solved until I woke up this morning to another BSOD.

Hello there & welcome!

"It's not a true crash, in the sense that the bluescreen was initiated only because the combination of video driver and video hardware was being unresponsive, and not because of any synchronous processing exception".

Since Vista, the "Timeout Detection and Recovery" (TDR) components of the OS video subsystem have been capable of doing some truly impressive things to try to recover from issues which would have caused earlier OS's like XP to crash.

As a last resort, the TDR subsystem sends the video driver a "please restart yourself now!" command and waits a few seconds.

If there's no response, the OS concludes that the video driver/hardware combo has truly collapsed in a heap, and it fires off that stop 0x116 BSOD.

If playing with video driver versions hasn't helped, make sure the box is not overheating.

Try removing a side panel and aiming a big mains fan straight at the motherboard and GPU.

Run it like that for a few hours or days - long enough to ascertain whether cooler temperatures make a difference.

If so, it might be as simple as dust buildup and subsequently inadequate cooling.

I would download cpu-z and gpu-z (both free) and keep an eye on the video temps

What is an ideal GPU temp? There is no dust on the system yet as it is only a few weeks old. I have Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo CPU cooler and in the BIOS screen, my CPU is operating at 35deg. I do not overclock this system either.

The most recent BSOD I received this morning is similar to one I got a couple of weeks ago where the system has powered down due to inactivity and when I move the mouse to activate it to start up, I am shown the BSOD when the monitor turns on.

If it's not a temperature problem, what could be another likely scenario?

OEM versions die with the system they are 1st installed on, i.e., OEM versions cannot be transferred to abother system.

Might I interject? Since you stated you were also getting an IRQL crash, in conjunction with the x116 BCCode, pull out the video card and wipe the ATI drivers from the system and use the onboard video for a bit and see if your crashes stop. If they do, try the GPU in another PC, or another GPU in your PC. This sounds more like a hardware failure than just a driver fault. IF you find a more stable system after removing the GPU and using a temporary one in it's place, RMA the newer GPU.

Thanks for all the advice. I will try all the suggestions and see how things go and report back. The thing is though, I can go over a week without getting a crash so I won't know whats going on for a short while.

Hi, I think I am at my wits end. I did everything that was suggested except remove the hard drive and run my monitors off my motherboard. I removed all the old drivers and installed new ones and ran driver verifier for over a day and a half. I even ran memtest for a total of 8 passes and no errors.

For over a week things were good, I thought it might have been a driver issue but I was watching a movie on my second monitor whilst working on the main monitor and I stepped away from the pc for half a day and after a short while the PC always goes to sleep. When I clicked the mouse to power it back on again, I had the blue screen again with an IRQL NOT LESS....ETC message on the screens.

I don't know if the allowing of the PC to sleep is an issue but it seems to give me the blue screens when I awaken it. I am even more concerned now as I tried to awaken the PC yesterday morning and it began to start up but then it just shut off. I couldn't get it to even power on even after I turned it off at the power point and tried restarting. I then grabbed at the power cable sticking out the back and it started to turn on but this screen came up saying:

DUAL BIOS
The main BIOS is corrupted. The system will be recovered from the backup BIOS. Please do not turn off power or reset the system. This may take a few minutes.

The problem apart from that is, I was waiting for it to recover but the power to the PC turned off again half way through. I tried seeing if the cable was securely in (which it was) and then it turned on again and eventually recovered from the back up BIOS. I then went into control panel and turned the sleep function off and it was fine all day yesterday. I turned the PC off last night to go to bed and when I hit the power button it was about to start and then turned off. I didn't have to touch it this time or there was no BIOS recovery screen that came on. It actually just turned on by itself after the second attempt.

I am really frustrated at this as I don't know what else to do, plus the fact that I have built this PC on my own and it will be a nightmare just to get warranty or refunding on individual parts as I bought these interstate and the turnaround time to get it back to the supplier for testing and return is anywhere from 2-4 weeks.

I have attached another zip file with the latest info on my system and the crashes. Is there anything else that someone might be able to suggest. Is it possible I am looking at further problems now with the mobo or PSU?

I did only install the display drivers for my GPU which is why I thought it was resolved when I never got a crash for nearly a week.
