[SOLVED] BSoD - Intel RST - Windows 10 x64

This is from my new laptop, a Dell Precision 7510 with Windows 10 x64.

The BSoD's appear to be related to the Intel RST driver (stemming from iaStorA.sys). I've done all windows updates, [FONT=Trebuchet MS, Arial, sans-serif]dell updates, intel updates, manually downloaded & installed the latest Intel RST driver, sfc, chkdsk - all to no avail. I just now opened a support ticket with Dell, but I figure that will take a while to escalate through the support tiers. I can consistently reproduce the crash by running the Dell support & diagnostics tools. When I don't run those tools, the crash happens ~ once a day, usually when the computer is idle for a a minute or two.

I didn't run the perfmon tool, since I think the minidump info shows enough about the issue - but I certainly can run it and attach that as well if anyone thinks it would help.

Intel RST version = 14.8.0.1042 (latest current version).
[/FONT]

Never mind, turned out I was premature in assuming Dell would take a while to respond. They had a quick response because apparently this is a known issue, and their work around is to either downgrade to Win 7 or uninstall their Support Assist tool - I've done the later, and hopefully will no longer have the issue. I'll comment here later if it reoccurres.

Hi. . .

That's fine about PERFMON. If I truly need it, I'll ask for it.

You certainly are not the first to have problems with an OEM's support tools. It seems to be rather expected with Windows 10 because the OEMs did not properly update the apps.

8 of the 14 dumps listed Intel'sl RST (Rapid Storage Technology) driver as the probable cause -
Code:
iaStorA.sys Tue Aug 18 08:18:59 2015 (55D322B3)
Driver Reference Table - iaStorA.sy

The remaining 6 dumps listed a MicroElectronics filter driver as the probable cause -
Code:
stdcfltn.sys Thu Jan 08 21:01:11 2015 (54AF3667)
Driver Reference Table - stdcfltn.sy

This is the location of this driver on your system according to the system reports submitted:
Code:
C:\Program Files\STMicroelectronics\stdcfltn\stdcfltn.sys
Perhaps this info will help you better identify exactly what this driver is for -- as I don't know anything about the product to which it belongs. If you do come upon additional information, please post it so that I can update our driver table with the new info. Thank you.

Both drivers need to be updated.

Regards. . .

FYI, that driver is an accelerometer driver, and Dell includes it as part of their driver suite if you install from their installers or use their OEM image. Dell shipped that driver for the Precision 7xxx series when a mechanical drive was in use, and the driver is actually made by a company out of the EU called ST Microelectronics - hence the installation directory (Dell just redistributes it as they use their multi-axis accelerometer in their systems - they probably used them because the devices were made in Carrolton, Texas, but I wouldn't know for sure). I've come across this one before, and those things are garbage for system instability (and performance, as they halt all I/O to and from any drives on the bus until the accelerometer is back in position, thinking the drive is safe).
