BSOD every 5 minutes after boot

Hello,

I'm not very good with debugging BSOD's. This is a very sudden occurrence in my PC. Everytime I start my pc, 5 minutes later it will crash and give me a BSOD. My PC is pretty old now, iv'e been using it since 10 years. I understand the fact that I need to buy a new PC, but I really want to know what's the problem, and fix this one. I just can't figure whether it's a hardware or software problem that's causing these BSOD's. It's worked perfectly so far, all these years and I haven't had any trouble with it. Here's the information that was asked from the Instructions post:

· OS - Vista
· x86 (32-bit)
· Vista was the original installed OS
· OS is an OEM version (came pre-installed on system)
· Age of Hardware - 10 years
· 10 years - never reinstalled the OS

· CPU - Intel Core 2 Duo E7600 3.06Ghz
· Video Card - Nvidia GTX 650
· MotherBoard - I think it's a 0RY007 (I have a Dell Inspiron 530)
· Power Supply - Zebronics 450W
· System Manufacturer - Dell

· This is a Desktop

Some Extra Information that you MIGHT find helpful:

· Iv'e recently changed my Processor, RAM, PSU and Graphics card (about 4 months ago). It was working perfectly fine so far
Changed E4500 to E7600 (OEM Tray only)
Changed GT610 to GTX 650.
Changed PSU from 150W Stock PSU to 450W Zebronics PSU.
Added a 2GB Ram stick to my previous (2x1GB) RAM.
Added a 80mm fan by Deepcool.

· Iv'e recently (past 3-4 days) noticed that my CPU is overheating very fast. It reaches 85-95º C in a 1 hour gaming session. It wasn't doing this before.

· The BSOD error code I always get is "0x00000101" with the message : "A clock interrupt was not received on a secondary processor within the allocated time interval"

· I Checked BlueScreenViewer and it told me that the "hal.dll" and "ntkrnlpa.exe" are causing the problem. I'm not sure how far this is true.

· I Haven't done any Windows updates in a year. Only updated my Nvidia graphics drivers about a month ago.

· Iv'e Uninstalled everything that I installed in the past 4 days

Hi Heavensdown. :welcome:

This is for starters (I didn't analyzed your files and by the way there are experts that will help you better than me):

  • Are you under/over-clocking your PC?
If yes, try to run it in normal conditions.

  • When have you cleaned your heatsinks, fans and their "breathers"/"air slits"(???) last time? And put a new layer of thermal past on the processor?
If you didn't already do it, try it... I think you should already know how to do it, but if this isn't the case, ask a friend of yours.

  • What antivirus are you using? And firewall? And antimalware?
It is usually better to try uninstalling third party suites and try to use on-board MS antimalware (Windows defender), antivirus (MS essentials) and firewall.

Hello Xilolee :)

Thank you for your quick reply, much appreciated! As of the pointers you've mentioned above:

1. Never overclocked my PC, because I always feared that i'd screw it up for some reason :P

2. I cleaned out my heatsink about 2 weeks ago, reapplied thermal paste just today even though there was a lot of it from earlier (4 months ago).

3. I'm currently using Avast as my antivirus, Windows Firewall as the default firewall, and Windows Defender as the default antimalware. I could consider uninstalling Avast but iv'e been using it since 4 years without any problems so far.

Thank you so much for your help and time!

Hi Heavensdown,

I couldn't analyze most of the dumps due to symbol problems, it is late for me so I'm not going to attempt to get rid of them.
But even though I can't analyze most dumps, the combination of 0x124 and 0x101 crashes do raise flags for me because both are well known hardware crashes.

1 of the few I could analyze shows the famous SPTD.sys driver, known for causing many BSODs on various Windows versions.
I suggest that you remove Daemon Tools and run the SPTD installer to verify that the SPTD driver is removed.
SPTD installer: Disk-Tools.com
Daemon Tools uses some drivers which are also known for causing BSODs.

Most of the minidumps says it's BugCheck 124: WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR - A fatal hardware error has occurred.
By the way, I saw you have installed authentium antivirus... I don't know if you have uninstalled it and how you did it, but there are remnants of it.
It seems a VERY OLD antivirus (xp days).
You could try to use the ESET AV Remover tool for 32bit systems (if you use it, remove only authentium!), but first wait for sysnative staff to confirm this.
I've also seen problems with the network and pen_tablet.exe.
In the meanwhile you are waiting for a more authoritative answer, you could check if each of your fans aren't (isn't?) blocked.
It could also be there are problems with MS license...

I still haven't been able to remove the symbol problems, they look similar to other symbol errors which I only had when analyzing 0x124 dumps...
Anyway, I wanted to let you know that using 2 different models & makes? of the memory is asking for problems + you might want to see if a BIOS update helps

Analysis for reference:
I'm not sure if including the dump with symbol errors is much useful, but with the 0x101 some data isn't visible
(removed symbol errors as that looks ugly)

Hello!

Thank you for those replies, and apologies for such a late reply! Anyway, Here's the progress Iv'e done today, with some seemingly good results:

1. Uninstalled Daemon Tools Lite from my PC, though I didn't install the STPD thing yet.
2. Updated via Windows Update (there were 9 updates), and updated the BIOS (1.0.10 to 1.0.18)
3. Removed the two old (2x1GB) RAM sticks (M378T2953EZ3-CE6)
4. Uninstalled Wacom drivers because they weren't working and I wasn't using my tablet anyway.

To Xilolee:

Thank you once again, for your input! As you said, I cleaned out my fans and made sure the air-flow was fine, however it still didn't solve the overheating of my CPU. I will wait for a professional's advice before using the ESET AV Remove Tool, as you said!

To axe0:

Thank you for your time! I reviewed your post and was a little unsure at first of what to do, I did update my BIOS and later decided to remove the old RAM sticks and leave the one I added recently. About your Daemon tools theory, I was not sure what the STPD Installer was, could you brief me on that? On the contrary, it's been about 4 hours ans I haven't had a BSOD (even though my CPU is currently running at 70C), but I will report in once anything goes wrong. (I'm pretty sure something will go wrong very soon; it all seems very uncanny I tell you! :grin1:)

Anyway, thank you so much, once again for your help and time! Awaiting further instructions~

FYI, SPTD.sys = SCSI Pass Through Direct driver, with the installer you can either install or uninstall the driver.

What CPU cooler do you use?

About your Daemon tools theory
I wouldn't call it a theory, more a fact ;)
I've seen & helped many users with their BSOD issues which were caused by Daemon Tools in Windows 7, 8.1 & 10.

I see, so I just install the SPTD Daemon tools and it should work fine? I'll give it a try right away!

The heatsink I currently use is the "Dell "K078D C955N". It's came with the PC, and yes it's pretty old! Iv'e ordered a new one and it should be arriving tomorrow or day after

Thanks!

Hello,

As you said, I uninstalled the SPTD.sys driver and restarted my PC. It's been about 8 hours of run time and there hasn't been any BSOD so far . However I do notice a severe drop in performance. My PC feels rather, choppy and i'm experiencing drops/spikes while in-game. Is it because I rid myself of half my RAM? or is it because of the overheating of the processor?

Anyway, as long as everything works i'm happy! Though, I would like to know whether it was the RAM or the updates that were causing the problem? Are there still any remaining errors, that could cause problems in the future? But regardless, I'd like to thank you both for your help and time!

you da real mvp(s) :thumbsup2:

You had 4GB and removed 2GB, the performance drop is certainly from the memory.
It would be better to get a kit of memory replacing the current memory instead of adding memory making mismatched possible.

I agree and I'm quite sure the problem derived from daemon tools: I had BSODs with that and with virtualclonecd (and with avast) in the past, when I was using XP.
I hadn't BSODs, or their frequency lowered, given that I didn't install them any more.

Hello!

It's been about two days now and I haven't had one BSOD! I put my new heatsink and the overheating vanished! I think i can finally say, my problems been solved! I cant thank you guys enough!
:grin1:
