Hi,

I skype quite a lot and very often the webcam stops working, it says that something else is using the webcam when its not. So I've found that restarting skype sometimes helps. However recently when I've been doing this the computer crashes, I've had a few different BSOD messages but the most recent one was DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION and the only other one I can remember is to do with a bad POOLHEADER.

So I googled the poolheader one and it said that it could be a problem with drivers, but ive gone through and used the hp website and also got the driver direct from the AMD website for the graphics card, and updated all of the drivers. I got the one of AMD because I'd done the HP one but sometimes when I restarted skype the screen would go black and then when it came back it would say that the AMD driver had crashed but recovered.

Hi Liam,

The attached DMP file is of the DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION (133) bug check.

This bug check indicates that the DPC watchdog executed, either because it detected a single long-running deferred procedure call (DPC), or because the system spent a prolonged time at an interrupt request level (IRQL) of DISPATCH_LEVEL or above.

Normally an 0x133 would require a kernel-dump, however in your case it may not be necessary.

Remove and replace AVG with Windows 8's built-in Windows Defender for temporary troubleshooting purposes as it may be causing conflicts with TrueCrypt:

Thank you for the quick reply!

I've removed AVG and turned on Windows Defender. Is there any particular reason that the computer would be crashing whenever I restart Skype? It's happened quite a few times now with Skype. My webcam just turns itself off and then my only solution seems to be to restart Skype but then the computer crashes.

Also would the fact that recently I've noticed that the computer's disk usage in task manager is at 100% a lot have any impact on the crashing?

Also I know this isn't the place to ask about it but if you have any ideas about the webcam issues any help would be appreciated I've tried reading a number of troubleshooting guides and forums.

It can be a # of things from an issue with your webcam software/drivers conflicting with Skype, a Skype issue, etc. I would try an uninstall/reinstall of your webcam software (especially if Logitech), and perhaps a reinstall of Skype as well.

In any case, keep me updated on your BSOD issue.

Regards,

Patrick
