A neighbor who is low income came to me with her laptop she got from her parents when they died. She's mostly houseridden and uses her PC daily, but can't afford a new PC. It's a Lenovo IdeaPad 81F5 with Windows 11 Home 64 bit
Recently her PC wouldn't boot. The startup circle would just continue forever. My checking of files showed LogonUI.exe was corrupt, so I copied a good copy from another Windows 11 PC. Now it boots, but after a couple of seconds the desktop disappears. Then after a few minutes it flashes on for a few seconds before blanking out again, then again and again every few minutes. CTRL-ALT-DEL works to bring up system manager and I can run COMMAND. SFC says there are errors in the registry but can't fix them. I tried DISM but when it comes time to use Install.wim, it always says it can't find the file. I made a boot thumb drive but DISM won't find the file on it, either.
I've copied all of her personal files onto a thumb drive. Would my best bet be to reinstall Windows 11 from scratch?
