My Samsung R710 laptop which has always been very fast at staring up after my password login in and the home desktop screen would come up within a few seconds , however for a couple of weeks now the Samsung starts up quickly as usual initially by showing the colour windows welcome screen but then after I put my password in a black screen with a white mouse curser comes up and remains for a couple of minutes or longer , although I can move the mouse curser nothing else happens until finally the desk top opens up in colour

The sfc scannow says utilman.exe is corrupted but can't fix it, so I downloaded and sfcfix which I understand can sometimes fix issues that sfc scannow can't, but it too was unable to fix even after the sfcfix requested me to insert the original Windows 7 ultimate installation discs to presumably try and find replacements for whatever was corrupted.

I did try going back a week or so and doing a system restore but that failed twice.

So if you are able to suggest anything else I can try to resolve this I would be grateful.

Your 17 corrupted files are exactly like the 18 corrupted files (you don't have utilman in your list) in this thread from 2018
[SOLVED] - [7SP1 x86] Corrupt files - cannot replace or fix

Unfortunately, the person who wrote the script to fix the issue is no longer here.
Be patient and hopefully someone else working here will be able to write a script to fix the corruptions.

Hi,
Thank you for your very prompt response to my enquiry, I am quite happy to wait until one of your colleagues may be able to offer a solution.
In the meantime I have run sfc/scannow which was unable to fix the corrupted files, I have also run your SFCFix with the original software disc but that was still unable to fix the corrupted files.
Please find attached today's SFCFix report.

Recently I installed Microsoft Security Intelligence update KB915597 for Windows Defender which some people have said can cause problems , although microsoft state it is impossible to uninstall the KB915597 update.
So after this I ran a system restore and the microsoft update notification is now showing KB915597 as an important update to be installed, although as yet I haven't installed it again?

Thank you

Hello,

Follow the instructions below please.

WARNING! The following fix is specific to the user's system in this thread only. No one else should follow these instructions, as it could damage your system.
  • Download the file SFCFix.zip and save it on your desktop.
  • Save any work you have open, and close all programs.
  • Drag the SFCFix.zip file over the
    myjIXnC.png
    SFCFix.exe executable and release it.
    1p8eDnI.gif
  • SFCFix will launch, let it complete.
  • Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt.
  • Open the file, then copy and paste its content in your next reply.

Thank you for the reply,
Unfortunately when I click on the SFCJXzip instead of downloading it takes me to the "FileDropper " site which wants me to sign up for a trialperiod and then pay a yaerly subscription'
This help appears to be a ploy to get people to sign up for yet more prograMes they don't really need.

Disappointed with this site so far, shame!

It's just a file hosting site, FileDropper have probably either removed the file which was hosted there or the Peter accidently provided the wrong url, since I'm getting a redirect request to the FileDropper homepage. Some of the scripts are too large to attach to a forum post so the helpers use file sharing sites instead.

For some reason the downloadlink doesn't work anymore. FileDropper than simply sends you to its homepage.
There is absolutely no intention to get you signed up at FileDropper or wherever. Any help given is free of charge.

Here is a new downloadlink at WeTransfer: SFCFix.zip
Please note that the new downloadlink expires after 7 days!

Hi ,
Thank you for your very prompt reply, I apologise for the misunderstanding it seems the reasonlt failed to download was entirely my fault due to not downloading the file within 7 days.
The file downloaded perfectly this time and I hope I have followed your instructions correctly.

Kind Regards

Hi, I was'nt sure if the files you sent had downloaded correctly, so instead of dropping them over SFCexc I used WinRar to unzip the files and transfer them to sfcexc, then I ran the program again, pleas find results attached

Thank you

Its not your fault. The first downloadlink came from FileDropper.com which should stay online for 30 days till the last download request. WeTransfer.com expires after 7 days from upload.
The fix went successful.
Are there any remaining issues ?

Hi Thank you for your very prompt reply inquiring if all went well with the fix.
Unfortunately on start up today I still have the same problem that the Samsung fires up quickly then I get the windows welcome screen asking for my password , on entering the password the little round revolving icon shows and then fades away as the screen black screen with the white arrow cursor hangs, although during this time I able to move the white arrow cursor around, then after a minute or so the black screen fades and my normal windows desktop opens up.
I have Kaspersky Total security with security Cloud software installed, although I have tried turning that off and the black screen problem still remained, I thought as the Security cloud take s a while to launch that may be the problem, although when this software was initially installed it didn't appear to cause the computer to go to a black screen during the cloud modules update.
Could it be anything to do with windows security update KB915597, although according to Microsoft once installed this cannot be removed or disabled.
I have checked the health of the Samsung SSD with the Samsung magician and the computer memory with diagnostics , both tested good.

Once again thank you for your help.

That is an update for Windows Defender which I think should be a problem besides Kaspersky.
Lets have a look with following tool.

FRST Scan:
  1. Download the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop:
32-bit: Downloading Farbar Recovery Scan Tool
Note: Your antivirus program may report FRST incorrectly as an infection. If so, disable the real-time protection when downloading and running FRST.

  2. Right-click to run the tool as administrator. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  3. Note: Ensure that the Addition.txt check box is checked at the bottom of the form within the Optional Scan area.
  4. Press the Scan button.
  5. Please wait for the tool to finish. It will produce two logfiles called FRST.txt and Addition.txt in the same directory the tool is run from (which should be the desktop)
  6. Post the logfiles FRST.txt and Addition.txt as attachment in your next reply.

H Peter,
Firstly than you for the sending the program that sorted out the corrupted entries in my laptops registry, something that the original software installation discs repair functionn had been unable to do.
I have now run Farbar scan repair tool as you instructed an attach the reports.
Kind Regards

Why was the tool TDDSKiller used ?
Did you ask for help on another forum ?

Warning: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Do not run this script on another machine.
  1. Download the attachment fixlist.txt and save it to your desktop.
  2. Right-click on FRST.exe and select "Run as administrator".
  3. Press the Fix button.
  4. The tool will now process fixlist.txt.
  5. If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
  6. When finished, a log called Fixlog.txt will appear in the same directory the tool is run from.
  7. Post the logfile Fixlog.txt as attachment in your next reply.

Hi Peter,
Thank you for the reply,
When I click on the icon it gives me the option of opening/saving in notepad or others.
I can save the download to the desktop and open it to see the text
Unfortunately I am unable to run the fixlist txt when I right click on the download it does, not offer the open as administrator option.

I just used the TDS killer in the past on several occasions after seeing a recommendation on Youtube that it was a good idea to run the program as a precautionary measure against virus infection.

Not such a good idea then?

Should I uninstall the TDS Killer and if so what is the best way?

Thank you

Kind Regards

If the file is on your desktop that is what we want.

Unfortunately I am unable to run the fixlist txt when I right click on the download it does, not offer the open as administrator option.
Please read the instruction at point 2.
Run the tool FRST as administrator, not the downloaded text file.

Better not use that tool without supervision of a Security-Helper. You can keep it for now, just don't use it.

Hi Peter,
Thank you for being so patient with me and for the explanation, I think I have followed your instruction correctly now, if not then please et me know.

Kind Regards

Well done.
Attach the file C:\TDSSKiller.3.1.0.28_21.03.2021_16.21.50_log.txt to your next reply.

The TDSS log shows no errors were found.
Please tell me how the machine performs now.
