Hello, I have problems with desktop icons. I can't move them, if I do it on a simple refresh are back on the left side of desktop. "Auto arrange icons", "Align icons to grid" and "Allow themes to change desktop icons" are uncheck. I have windows 10 Home x64, upgraded from windows 8.1. After upgrade all was fine but after I make the "cumulative update KB3081424 apear this problem. I must specify another problem after upgrade, maybe it counts, on may laptop I have 2 video cards, one onboard (Intel HD Graphics 4600) and one dedicated (NVidia Geforce 750M). After upgrade, graphic driver are not working, all time work only onboard one, so I must install GeForce drivers manually. After that it looks all are fine. Ok, so, I run "sfc /scannow" comands several times, you will see that in CBS.log. Found errors but it can't correct them.
Please excuse my english, but hope to be understood.
Here are the SFCFix.txt (I run it but I'm not shure it work on Windows 10-No errors found), and CBS.

Hi and welcome to Sysnative. Let's see what we can do. First lets fix your corruption. Please do the following.

Step#1 - SFCFix Script
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop. If you still have this on your desktop from downloading previously, you don't need to re-download.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please

Step#2 - Verify Corruption is fixed
1. Right-click on the Start
w8start.png
button and select Command Prompt (Admin)
2. When command prompt opens, Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Right-click > Paste) the following command into it, then press Enter
sfc /scannow

3. Once it finishes, copy and paste the following into the command-prompt window and press Enter.

Excellent. The corruption is resolved.

As far as your icons go, I'm assuming this is still an issue. If so, please validate the following for me.

1. Right-click your desktop
2. Select View...and make sure Auto Arrange Icons is not checked

Thanks.

Unfortunatelly you have right. "Auto arrange icons", "Align icons to grid" and "Allow themes to change desktop icons" are still uncheck, and, yes, icons have same issue. Annyway, I want to thank you for help, at least my registries are now healthy. I'm fighting with this problem about 4-5 days, but I can't solve it. Do you think my only chance to resolve it's a windows 10 clean install?

Let's not do anything extreme yet. Please do the following.

Mini Toolbox
1. Please download MiniToolBox, save it to your desktop and run it.
2. Click only List Installed Programs and List last 10 Event Viewer Errors.
3. Click the Go button.
4. Notepad will open with the log once it completes. Post the result (MTB.txt). A copy of MTB.txt will be saved in the same directory the tool is run.

Thank you. Please do the following so I can verify the system health.

Step#1 - DISM /RestoreHealth Scan
Warning:this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Right-click on the Start
    w8start.png
button and select Command Prompt (Admin)
  2. When command prompt opens, Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Right-click > Paste) the following command into it, then press Enter
    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  3. Once it finishes, copy and paste the following into the command-prompt window and press Enter. If prompted to overwrite the existing file go ahead.
    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  4. Once this has completed please go to your Desktop and you will find CBS.txt => Please zip/upload to this thread.
Please Note:: if the file is too big (over 7MB) to upload to your next post, please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.

It appears the log you sent was from three days ago. Could you try following the instructions again? I only need the cbs.txt file that will be created on your desktop after you preform step#3. Thank you.

Sorry for that. I chose the wrong CBS.zip from upload screen, are there all file uploaded in the last three days.

OK. Let's do a repair install of Windows 10 which should resolve the issue. Use the media creation tool (link below) and re-install over the top. Make sure you choose the option to keep everything which will be an in-place upgrade. As always, make sure you have a backup of your critical data. It's rare but something could go unexpectedly wrong.

Let me know how it goes.

Sorry for late reply but just late in night I have time to do it. After repair install all sems to be all right. Icons can be rearrange how I want and stay where I put them. I have two users, after repair, when I boot on each, I found the icons in position befor issue apear, strange.
Thank you very much for help.

OK, after all was fine my laptop stay till last night only on sleep mode. This morning, after an restart, all icons go back to the left side of desktop. So, issue is back. It ca be possible that one of the video drivers (I belive the Intel) be the motive for such an issue? When I log on on other user, apear a notification, something like : "You are on a resolution not suported by your graphic. Change it". But this is bizzare, on resolution settings I'm on recomanded resolution... If that is the reason, even a clean install will not solve the issue, only a new Intel graphic driver.

Since I specialize in Windows Update/Servicing issues and your machine is now corruption free, I'm going to suggest that you post an inquiry in our Windows 10 forum. The experts there have much more knowledge in this area and may have already seen and possibly solved this issue. Let them know you have been cleared from the Windows Update forum so they don't go down that avenue and see if they can assist. Thank you.
