Good Evening,

i'm having a problem on a friend computer, and i'm supporting him via remote Teamviewer, since he's not tech-savvy.

Long story short, he needed to replace a bad drive, and i recovered his computer installation after cloning.

Since then, he's unable to start Acrobat or Office Applications due to aforementioned error.

0xc00000005.jpg

O.S. Windows 10, legit office 2016 key, no evident sign of malware (gdata installed ad antivirus, made scans with superantispyware and malwarebyte).
Tried sfc /scannow and dism /restorehealth, both fails with errors. Tried to run SFCFix, it detected no corruptions but gave an error during the incremental process, around 85%.
Media creation tool tell me that can't work with installed windows version, maybe cause it's an upgrade from windows 7.

Attached are the sfcfix report and cbs logs zip, can someone provide some pointers?
Thanks in advance

Thanks a lot, i'll be waiting :D i really want to understand what's wrong with this computer!

Hi,
Actually there shouldn't be any abbyy software installed, but I cannot exclude that on the "old" installation...

Let's gather more info:

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the attached file, SFCFixScript.txt, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFixScript.txt - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFixScript.txt.
  5. Drag the file SFCFixScript.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a log should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this into your next post for me to analyse please - put

tags around the log to break up the text.

Hi, launched chkdsk /f on my friend computer, but he had to disconnect for the night so still haven't run the tool provided. Will connect again tomorrow evening to conclude the steps provided.

Back again, the chkdisk results shows some bad sectors, but the disk is brand new... anyway, here's the log:

Please test it anyway, something does not seem right!
GSmartControl
Follow the instructions below to test your hard drive health with GSmartControl:

  • Download GSmartControl and save it on your Desktop;
  • Execute gsmartcontrol.exe; Let the install complete and launch the programme.
  • Identify your drive in the list, and double-click on it to bring up it's window (usually you'll find your drive by it's size or it's brand name);
  • Go in the Perform Tests tab, then select Extended Self-test in the Test type drop-down list and click on Execute (this test can take a few hours to complete);
  • Once the test is over, the results will be displayed at the bottom of the window. Please copy and paste these results in your next reply;
  • Also, go in the Attributes tab and if you have any entries highlighted in red or pink, take a screenshot of the GSmartControl window and attach it in your next reply;
    info_failing.png

Here i am again, last night i launched the test, and today managed to reconnect to my friend to collect the logs. Everything looks fine i think, no red/pink warning in smart (88 hours of use, new disk) and here's the log collection (coudn't be connected during the scan process so had no luck in retrieving the message at the end of the process).

---------------Error Message---------------

Thank you for your insights

The computer ram was not tested, but the error is the only thing that is "broke", and only happens in Office applications and Adobe reader. I already tried full reinstall of the applications, cleaning both with the dedicated cleaner from microsoft/adobe, so i tried the sfc/dism combo and encountered the errors reported in the thread. The only problem in testing the computer ram, is that i can't run a memtest from remote, and i haven't got physical access at the machine since my friend is quite far away from me :(.
