Hey guys,

So a couple of days ago all my Bluetooth peripherals stopped working (mouse and keyboard) as well as my external monitor. I believe it was caused by a windows update, but can't be sure. After some troubleshooting I noticed the bluetooth component was gone and two unrecognized devices were shown on the device manager:

When trying to update the drivers I get the "Configuration registry database is corrupt" error. All of the windows update fail to install after that as well:

I've looked everywhere on the web to no avail. Run sfc, dism and sfcfix all of which, are apparently coming back ok.

from posts online, it would indicate a corruption on the components hive, but I have no idea how to troubleshoot that.

Below a link to the COMPONENTS file from C:\windows\system32\config

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Is this salvageable? should I better look into a new install? taking into consideration the current circumstances, I'd want that as last resort, as if anything goes wrong will not have a means to get help right away

Stay safe!

Hi!

Step 1 - Replace Drivers Hive Manually

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download DRIVERS.ZIP and save to your desktop.
  2. Right-click on it and select Extract all.... Make sure the "Show extracted files when complete" is checked and click Extract.
  3. Now we have the DRIVERS file that we will be using to replace your current one.
  4. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\config
  5. Right-click on the current DRIVERS file and select rename. Rename it to DRIVERS.bad.
Note: If you get an error that the file is in use, reboot your computer and then try again.
  6. Take the file from the Drivers folder on your desktop and paste it into C:\Windows\System32\config

Reboot and everything should work again.
