Another High DPC Problem Affecting Audio

Hi folks

I'm routinely getting high DPC spikes into the red which interferes with audio. I've followed some of the tutorials and run some monitoring tests as advised in this forum but I don't really know how to interpret the info.

I'll post some screengrabs from LatencyMon here, will be grateful if anyone can help/shed any light. Thanks.

Welcome to Sysnative, jelnet.

We have a lack of background info on what you were doing with the PC during the trace, limited hardware details as well - can you carefully read and run the BSOD collection app. and upload the required zipped folder: https://www.sysnative.com/forums/bs...d-posting-instructions-windows-8-7-vista.html

Were you running a heavy data transfer over SATA or USB at the time, like running something from a non-System drive?

Hi satrow thanks for your reply. The DPC peaks are noticeable and seem to occur when using Cubase 5 music production software, however I'm not sure if it is related to the use of Cubase or that it's then that I notice it. Sometimes the peaks continue after a reboot, and usually stop after a few minutes when they occur.

I have followed your instructions and uploaded the zip file and filled in some more details below. I have attached the files to this post rather than that suggested in the BSOD post, but if it makes more sense to load them there I can remove them from this thread and create a new one there. Also, please note I ran the BSOD and perfmon tests while the PC was behaving (i.e. NOT having DPC spikes) - I can repeat when it's having problems if this is better (let me know). I have also attached a file called "Hardware Info.html" which gives more detailed hardware info.

Thanks again!

Sorry, jelnet, I had an emergency crop up overnight, my time online and concentration levels will be sporadic over the next few days. I'll ask for another staff member to help you out.

In the meantime, I have a gut feeling that the Aten serial device is somehow implicated, I would disconnect it and uninstall the software and drivers during troubleshooting.

Hi. . .

Test your HDD. Several of your earlier 2013 dumps point in that direction.

Thanks guys for taking the time to reply. I shall try the things you suggested and report back in due course.

Cheers guys for all your help. Have now completed all steps: HDD all good, NVIDIA up to date, BIOS updated, Realtek updated, didn't have much luck with Intel Storage Drivers (didn't know which to pick) but this little utility said my current verion (9.4.0.1017) was valid: Intel® Driver Update Utility

So far the DPC spikes have stayed low but I haven't yet started any serious audio editing. So I shall report back shortly after some further testing... see you soon...

iastorv.sys (Intel RAID controller driver) was the loaded driver during data collection, Intel has a page with info/links, try their Chipset Identification Utility: Chipset Software — Hardware support

Intel® Rapid Storage Technology is the driver set Intel has been pushing recently, it's also listed as a download for your 'board at Gigabyte.

Funnily enough I tried the CIU earlier and it barfed. This time I have taken screengrabs of the errors. I have set the exe with Admin priveleges and also Ran as admin, but same result... any idea what I need to do here? Thanks again...

pciutil.JPGchiputil.JPG

(Late again) I'm not sure why you had that installer problem, W7 should auto-block unsigned drivers but I was under the impression that there was an override feature (if only for the current session). There was also a Windows Update patch which modified this behaviour (around the time of SP1, I think), not sure I can set mine to default to test this as I 'fixed' mine to allow on a prompt before that patch was issued.

Any further updates/changes?

Hi again... no luck I'm afraid with the Hidden Admin account, haven't tried searching for the patch yet but maybe I'll try that if I have problems down the line. So far though I haven't had any DPC peaks (at least not continuous ones) so that's great! Having said that I haven't done much heavyweight audio editing to properly test, but will let you know when I do and how I get on. In the meantime I have made a small donation to the site to say thanks for your help. Cheers guys! Jeremy.
