Hi,
I need help installing the Windows 10 anniversary update. Windows Update gives the message "Windows 10 anniversary update fails with 0x80070057 error". I tried using the Windows 10 Upgrade Assistant, but again no luck. SFC reports no problems. SFCFix reports no corruptions.
Thanks

There are 3 ways:

1. Download the Anniversary Update ISO here. Once downloaded, mount it with Windows Explorer, and launch setup.exe to install Anniversary Update.

2. Download Media Creation Tool from here. In the tool, burn Windows 10 to a USB flash drive, boot from it, and install.

3. Download Windows 10 Upgrade Assistant from here. Follow the steps to install Windows 10 Anniversary Update.

Good luck!

Thanks. I tried these three suggestions without success. With the first and third, the installation started normally, then crashed without explanation. I successfully created a USB boot drive, but was not able to get my computer to boot with it. (There is no option in the bios to boot from a USB drive.)

I wonder if there could be a problem with my boot drive (a 240 GB SSD). Chkdsk reports the drive is fine, but I notice that a folder entitled "found.001" on my C: drive containing file fragments recovered by chkdsk which I cannot delete.

Any other suggestions?

The only way, if you cannot install it from within Windows, it to boot from the USB drive.

1. Complete Method 2 in Post #2.

2. Back up your data.

3. You need to access the boot menu, which is not necessarily in the BIOS. Check your computer's model for exact steps. A menu containing available devices to boot from should appear.

4. Select "USB HDD" or something similar. The installation screen should appear.

5. Follow the instructions. You might have to use the included diskpart tool to clean your drive.

6. Install.

Good luck!

OK. My Windows 10 Pro computer was running fine, but I could not get it to install the Anniversary Update. SFC reported no corruptions. I wanted to avoid doing a clean install of the Anniversary Update, but it became clear that it would not be possible. I found a program that enabled me to boot from a USB stick and used it to do a USB install of the AU (as you suggested) and then to re-install most of my programs.

The problem is that SFC is now reporting corruptions that it cannot fix and I am having problems with Windows Update - specifically with the Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1607 for x64-based Systems (KB3200970). This morning I tried running SFC again but it stopped at 47% with a message that it could not continue. I tried again and immediately got a blue screen crash. I tried running SCFFix several times. The first time it reported no corruptions. The logfile is included below. The second time SCFFix reported that it had crashed. I ran SFC once more. It finished, but reported corruptions it cannot fix. I have uploaded the log (I hope).

What should I do?

Windows Update successfully installed two updates today. SFC ran successfully but still reports corruption it cannot fix. CBS log shows lots of duplicate ownership of directory errors. CBS log (zip file) attached. SFCFix crashes.

Hi,

My original problem, inability to install the Anniversary Update, has been solved, but not my subsequent problem with SFC corruption. Since I have not received any addition replies for a while, perhaps I should mark this thread "solved" and then make an additional post. Thanks for the help.
