So I've done just about everything there is to do trying to fix this problem, Windows 10 21H2 Ent. systems just won't install CU updates, but anything else works fine. The CBS log appears to show some missing assembly files or 'INVALID PACKAGE errors' like this:
CBS InternalOpenPackage failed for Package_for_KB3025096~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.4.1.0 [HRESULT = 0x800f0805 - CBS_E_INVALID_PACKAGE]
CBS Failed to complete component closure [HRESULT = 0x80073712 - ERROR_SXS_COMPONENT_STORE_CORRUPT]
and the event log setup log shows
Windows update "Security Update for Windows (KB5029244)" could not be installed because of error 2147956498 "The component store has been corrupted." (Command line: ""C:\WINDOWS\system32\wusa.exe" "C:\temp\windows10.0-kb5029244-x64_fb8cdde229cf17755c2c890a12e0e8f252dd38c0.msu" ")
This problem seems to be occurring more frequently, with dozens of computers at my work having the same problem. Was there some recent windows patch that caused this component store corruption?
I've ran DISM/SFC, windows update troubleshooter, ran dism to repair the OS using a W10 ISO for the source, etc.
I'm new here, and I see people submitting their CBS logs and getting some customized .exe files in return, what's that all about? What do the .exe's do, like the SFCfix.exe - are they just repairing corrupte components, or perhaps uninstalling missing/corrupted OS packages/cabs?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
