Hello,

I have been trying to figure this out on my own but can't seem to find a way. The problems began when I declined to allow a program I didn't recognize to "make changes to my computer" when I received a popup I didn't recognize. I run Windows 8. Ever since that I can no longer make any changes to my computer, I can't run downloaded programs, I can't run a system restore, etc. Sometimes I can work around this and do some of these things if I reboot in safe mode, but even that doesn't allow me to make some changes.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer. A fix that doesn't involve me needing to reinstall my OS would be nice, as that seems to be the advice I'm getting from a couple local techs I know who I've had conversations with.

Hello Sherlock and welcome to the forum.

Lets fix up these corruptions first.

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

 1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
 2. Download SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
 3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
 4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
 5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
 6. SFCFix will now process the script.
 7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
 8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put

tags around the log to break up the text.

I tired running the SFCFix code again but it doesn't create a log. It says it couldn't create a log file, and it gave me the error code 0x1. I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but I can only run SFCFix in Safe Mode without Networking right now. I can try running it again later tonight in safe mode with Networking if that might make a difference.

I also don't have any Windows 8 installation disks so I can't insert them when requested to by the program.

Ok, tried it again in safe mode with networking and I get the same time. This time I received error codes 0x1 AND 0x2.

I get these error codes at the very end when the program attempts to create the log files. Otherwise I do not receive any error messages, the program runs normally and repairs the same 1 out of 3 corrupt files every single time I run it.
