When I started to have big problems with my laptop, it was a very worrying & stressful time. :banghead: I went to my main forum, Norton, and a member there suggested contacting one of the specialist malware forums. Bleeping Computer were first on the list and so were first to receive my 226MB CBS scannow report. A most helpful dc3 there identified KB3022345 as the culprit and linked me to The Tech Cookbook, to the fixes posted there by Alex, GoThePower and written by niemiro. After a struggle downloading them to my desktop (browser settings now changed), I ran them and now have a clean PC.

The help by all concerned has been first class and is much appreciated. Without advisers like you, sprogs (most of the world's PC users?) like me would have thrown their PC through the nearest window in despair.

Thanks again, all - your help has been wonderful and much appreciated. :thumbsup2: :beerchug2:

In closing may I suggest to niemiro a change in the fixes? The SFC report contained several references to amd eg "FIXED: Corruption at C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64". This caused me a little panic as my laptop has an Intel Pentium, not amd. dc3 put me right on that - the amd64 reference is there because it's the 64-bit version of the x86 (32-bit) instruction set. So niemiro, any chance of a short "Don't worry" note on your magical fix?

Best regards to all.
