[SOLVED] A current driver on your PC may be better than the driver we're trying to install. We'll keep trying to install. FIX: I used Windows Update Minitool.

I have a win 10 update error that states "A current driver on your pc maybe better than the driver we're trying to install " Don't know what driver it is and no way to get rid of this error. When I access

win update it says updates are available but instantly it reverts to the error message I stated. Any help would be appreciated because I have not been able to get Jan updates for win 10. I have an event viewer log if that helps. I need to get rid of that error.

Have you checked which updates it's attempting to install? One of the updates should state the driver name or package.

Follow x BlueRobots suggestion above first.

Then:

Turn off Windows Update Checking for Drivers. It's best to get drivers from the manufacturer of the hardware.

Hit start, type device installation, click change device installation settings, choose no, then save settings. Ignore that warning in the parenthesis, it's simply not true.

I checked update history. Nothing there on driver it's trying to install. After turning off driver updates is still a problem. Also checked device manager.. the only log available was from event viewer that I posted.

Could you please provide a screenshot of the updates which Windows wishes to install?

It does not show any updates which windows want to install. When I go to settings to windows update the error is all ready there. When I press retry,for an instant i get the message that updates are available and then the error returns

Settings -update and security-windows update. The ID # is 10005
in event viewer. Source is distributedCOM,task category=none. I have had this error since 12/25/2020 to present.

From an elevated command prompt, have you tried the following commands?

UsoClient StartScan
UsoClient StartDownload
UsoClient StartInstall

I entered each of the command prompts and nothing happens. Also I ran these as administrator. Also here are some screenshots when the event happened to the present.

Looks like the Windows Update server was down at time, have you tried the command again since?

I think I solved the problem. I used the mini-tool from majorgeeks and it worked. So far so good
