800F0900 Error

I have a Dell 17” Studio 1745 laptop running genuine Windows 7 Home Premium with 64-bit, Intel (R) Core (TM)2 DuoCPU P745 @ 2.12GHz Processor with 4.00GB of RAM. The Microsoft Automatic update is switch on but has not worked since the last updates were installed in March 2014. The same message now recurs each run time 'Windows could not search for new updates - an error occurred while checking for new updates for your computer - error(s) found: 800F0900 - Windows updates encountered an unknown error'. I’ve read several posts and followed the general advice but to no avail. I've run the ‘Find and Fix problems within the System and Security, as well as the System Update Readiness Tool followed by the Fix and Find again then re-run the Window update only to receive the same error code. To my surprise(haha) I managed to acquire the CBS files.

Now, it may be irrelevant but I understand my F drive is incorrectly partitioned and regularly becomes virtually full (like it when I bought it from new). I don't know how to correct this either (maybe another issue for another thread!).

Any help would be appreciated!

Hello Craig,

Download and run System Update Readiness Tool (SURT)

  • Please go Here and download the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT). Save this file to your desktop
  • Go to your desktop and run KB947821
  • When the SURT finishes installing, copy (Ctrl + C) and paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of the SURT log into your next post please:
    C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log
    C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log

Thanks so much for promptly replying.

If I've done it right (followed your instructions to the tee) here's the CheckSUR and CheckSUR.persists reports:-
