Hello,

I come from Windows 7 Help Forums. Since no solution was found, one of the members transferred me overhere.

I ll repeat what I mentioned before:
I have had 3 BSOD's in september (during surfing). I got no idea why this is happening now, I don't remember having any updates lately. I do think there was an issue with the mouse/keyboard settings, but I don't believe this is causing the BSOD's. Meanwhile I did a memory test, chkdsk (/f & r),... but no problems detected so far. I am running an "old" computer (>10 years), and I want to make it last as long as possible

Windows also automatically performed (on the 23th) a "check for consistency" of disk C: and did some correcting of errors.
Also good to know, my old C: drive I only use for running win 7. I added an new extra drive (D:) last year (when I also did a format C: and re-installed win 7) for all my data (docs, music, pictures, etc.).

So far I haven't experienced another BSOD, fingers crossed.

Thnx in advance!

FYI: today the computer froze (no BSOD) and I got a message 'warning' below regarding the display adapter.
After reset I checked the 'device manager':

However, there is nothing unusual...

Today I had a new BSOD, after several 'screens freezes'. In case it is my display adapter that is causing this problem, why now and what to do about it?
Was there a BSOD crash dump file that you can share with us?

Hi!

All dumps say:

Microsoft says:
Read More:
Therefore, according to it:
  1. Backup your important files in a safe place.
  2. If you overclocked your system, reset everything to stock settings (most likely: set "AI Overclocking" as standard - loads the standard settings for the system).
  3. Check if the desktop is dust-free (internally), especially on fans.
  4. Check if fans are working, that is, if they are rotating/spinning (even the PSU fan).

(Proceed to this second part only if the previous didn't work, and the BSOD didn't disappear)
We shouldn't exclude other things mentioned by microsoft, even if this BSOD seems CPU related:
  1. Uninstall daemon tools and wincdemu altogether.
  2. If you used mcafee antivirus in the past, and you aren't currently using it (i.e., you already uninstalled it), read Antivirus Software and Internet Security For Your PC or Mac | McAfee! and remove its remnants. (Because I see a file that seems related to mcafee)
  3. Test your ram (see our hardware tutorial forum, there are 4 different tools for it - preferred is memtest86, but I like also HCIDesign memtest).
  4. Test your drivers with driver verifier (if you don't know how-to, I'll provide you instructions).
  5. A bios update is available. Currently, it seems you have got BIOS Version 0604, dated 2008/08/06.
The "new" one is Version 0709, dated 2010/04/29.
I would prefer the EZ FLASH 2 method.
Make sure to don't update the BIOS during a storm (thunderstorm, rainstorm) and (if possible) that power from the mains won't go away - won't be interrupted.
DO NOT SHUTDOWN and DO NOT RESET the system while updating the BIOS.
    Instructions:
(note: the following steps are for EZ FLASH 3 on a newer Asus MoBo, but they shouldn't be so different than EZ FLASH 2)

Most likely, the CPU is dying and you might be forced to change it (maybe you could buy a used CPU on ebay, or other website... Not sure if you can find one).

Thanks for the feedback. I really hope it's not the CPU dying! How long does hardware last in proper circumstances?
I'll start checking the first part tomorrow and keep you posted.

  4. Check if fans are working, that is, if they are rotating/spinning (even the PSU fan)
1. How do you mean, back up on a external drive? Can the CPU damage my 2 hard drives? (first is only for WIN7, the second has music,data,...)
2. I don't do that. Where can I check this? I looked in the BIOS but didn't find it.
3. I cleaned the interior, but since I do that regulary there was not a lot of dust on the devices.
4. I ve a cooler master desktop with 3 additional fans + thermometer. All working fine, including the regular one on the CPU and the one integrated in the video card. Anyways I cleaned them too.

1) Most likely, no... But that's a standard message in case things will go wrong (i.e., "I told you!"). ;-)
2) Advanced -> JumperFreeConfiguration -> Ai Overclocking -> standard
3 and 4) (y)

Today I got a new 'freeze' but no BSOD (no dumpfile). So I don't believe the issue is solved. Concerning your next steps:

  • Uninstall daemon tools and wincdemu altogether > You mean install? I don't have these apps.

  • Test your ram (see our hardware tutorial forum, there are 4 different tools for it - preferred is memtest86, but I like also HCIDesign memtest). > I ll try this today.

  • Test your drivers with driver verifier (if you don't know how-to, I'll provide you instructions). > yes please give instructions.

  • Uninstall daemon tools and wincdemu altogether > You mean install? I don't have these apps.
They both appear in your logs.

It seems the file I saw, i.e. MCUpdate.DLL, is a Windows Media Center (MC) file.

The new dump shows the same as the other ones.

If you can't find "daemon tools", wincdemu and BazisVirtualCD, in windows control panel - uninstall a program, then:
1) Create a system restore point.
2) Create a system backup.
3) Try this command (it's one, in one line), from command prompt (admin):
Code:
sc stop BazisVirtualCDBus && sc stop dtlitescsibus && sc stop dtliteusbbus && sc config BazisVirtualCDBus start= disabled && sc config dtlitescsibus start= disabled && sc config dtliteusbbus start= disabled
4) Report here its result.
