[SOLVED] [7Ult x64 - NO SP] Trying to install SP1

Hi, I re-installed Windows 7 Ultimate a couple of days ago, and it has not been going well. As I'm writing this, I have just formatted my SSD for the 5th time, so the Win7 installation is new (on previous installations I've tried multiple solutions found via Google, none of which helped).

On my current clean installation, I used Windows Update and chose to install all important updates - SP1 was included in the check list, but could not be installed.
Here are the successful updates listed at the "Installed updates" section of WU:
- KB2562937
- KB2534366
- KB2533552
- KB3163589

I then tried to install SP1 by downloading the manual installer from Microsoft support, and right at the beginning of the process it closed and gave me the error message: "System error prevented SP1 from installing."
I've run the "System Update Readiness Tool" since most google results recommended that, didn't solve the problem.

Despite having built PC's from separately purchased components and installed Win98 and XP with all the necessities multiple times for myself and others since I was a teenager, I understand very little about updating Windows and Win7 problems in general. I used Win XP with nothing but SP2 for over a decade, and on my last Win7 installation I only used Windows Update once, to get SP1 and a bunch of other updates marked as important.

Please ask me for any other information if you think you could help, and all help is very welcome at this point!

Also, sorry to be the guy to register on a forum and make a thread like this as his first post. I'm desperate and been at this the whole weekend.

Hi,

We need to get more information from the machine before trying to fix the problem, please execute the following:

Export the CBS folder

Click the Start button

then click Computer.
Double-click on the C: drive, under the Hard Disk Drives category, and then scroll down to, and double click on the Windows folder.
Find and double click on the Logs folder.
Right-click on the CBS folder, and select Copy.
Go back to your Desktop, right-click on it, and select Paste. You should now see a copy of the CBS folder appear on your Desktop called CBS.
Right-click on this new folder, and navigate through Send to, and select Compressed (zipped) folder.
A new file, also called CBS (CBS.zip), but this time with a different icon, will be created.
Attach this to your next post please, if the file is too big please upload the file to a service like Dropbox, Google Drive, etc. or upload to SendSpace and just provide the link for the file here

First I have to mention that the original problem of SP1 not installing was "solved," as I left Win Update on many times while leaving for work or going to sleep (with only the SP1 selected to be installed). I came home to a failure message a few times, but then, a couple of days ago, SP1 had installed (didn't do anything different compared to the other times, afaik).

Of course I'd still like to get rid of whatever's wrong with my system. I feel like some software installations that usually take just a second have been stalling.

Download the System Update Readiness Tool (x64) and save it to some place, its a big download and eventually we need to run it several times, please keep the file
Run the tool. Its like an Update but it can take a long time to do the work. You will get an Installation Complete screen when it's done running
Please attach to your post the log from the following location: C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log
Note: If the file is too big please Zip it and upload the ZIP file to a service like Dropbox, Google Drive, etc. or upload to SendSpace and just provide the link for the file here

!!! WARNING !!! The following fix is only relevant for this system and no other, applying this fix on another computer will not work and most likely will cause problems...

Download SFCFix.exe (by Niemiro) and save it to the Desktop
Download the file SFCScript.txt, attached below, and save this to your Desktop
On your Desktop, make sure you have the two files:

SFCFix.exe and

SFCScript.txt
Drag the file SFCScript.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it
The SFCFix tool will process the script
Upon completion, a log file SFCFix.txt should be created on your Desktop
Open the SFCFix.txt log and copy & paste the contents to your post

Thanks for the log, it contains some errors that can be safely ignored it will not affect Windows or Windows Update.

Ok, good to hear! I was hoping you'd say that about the remaining errors on the log. System is running very smoothly. Just a few days ago I'd get crashes for Firefox and explorer.exe because I was multitasking, but currently I'm purposely running a ton of heavy programs and the response on everything is immediate. At some point I will try updating my GeForce display driver and a few others things that never made sense to me, just in case those problems were Win system related.

Thanks for the fix. This forum is like a case of "too good to be true, but it actually is." Thanks for your time, I'll be sure to mention to others how I got my system errors fixed + throw some appreciation via PayPal.
