This is a Windows 7 Professional x64 w SP1 operating system. I noticed the same windows updates were failing install for MS Office 2013 several days in a row. I uninstalled / reinstalled office but did not fix the issue. I ran chkdsk /f /r and it fixed several file errors. Next I ran SFC /scandisk which located several items that it could not repair. The last thing I could think of was to do a Windows 7 repair in place (probably not a good idea looking back) but as far as the SFC items it corrected all the integrity violations. The Windows repair in place left me with 173 updates with all but 25 successful installs. The windows update continued to fail to install the same updates. After an internet search of one of the error codes, I learned of this site and the possibility of correcting the windows update issues. I have followed the posting protocol and attached the required files. I would greatly appreciate any assistance in resolving the issues.

Re: Windows Update Not Working

Hello and welcome!

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put [CODE][/CODE] tags around the log to break up the text.

Afterwards, run SURT again and attach CheckSUR.log.

Greetings,

Attached are the files requested. Unfortunately I do not know how to add the
Code:
tags around the log to break up the text.

Thanks...

Re: Windows Update Not Working

After the last sfc fix, there were 16 important updates that installed correctly. There was one update that would not install. This was KB3071756. After looking at the version windows update was trying to install (windows 6.1-KB3071756-x86.msu) I was at a loss as to why it was trying to install an x86 version on my x64 system. I downloaded an installed the windows 6.1-KB3071756-x64.msu standalone and it installed perfectly. The windows update is complete as far as I can tell. Do I need to do anything else on my end?

Thanks
