Hello folks,

I've been fighting failed updates for quite some time, years. I can install some individual updates, but the cumulative updates fail most every time. I've read much on the web but have not been successful at resolving this.

I've tried to repair Windows using the original Windows 7 Pro disk, but it doesn't find any OS when booted from Windows 7 Pro disk. It tells me to install drivers, but I'm unable to find them using the repair tool.

I'm running a dual boot Toshiba Qosmio X775 laptop:

Processor: Intel Core i7-2600QM
RAM: 8 GB
OS: Windows 7 Pro Sp1 64-bit on 1 500GB hard drive
OS: Linux Mint 18.2 on separate 500GB hard drive

I get a Grub boot menu on startup to choose operating system.

Re: Windows 7 Sp1 Updates Fail

Still no response. Wondering if I should continue my search for a solution elsewhere.

Re: Windows 7 Sp1 Updates Fail

Hello and welcome to Sysnative. We apologize for the delay! With such high amount of errors I would advise you to perform a repair install in order to retain all your applications and settings as the repair would likely take a long time.

Re: Windows 7 Sp1 Updates Fail

Thanks for the reply.

I just tried a repair by booting from Windows 7 cd:
Selected Windows Startup Repair, No issues found.
Selected Install Now, then Upgrade, My current version is newer than the CD version, upgrade not completed.

Booted from Hard disk:
Uninstalled SP1 update
Inserted CD, same result as above.

I really do not want to reinstall windows with its 200+ updates.

Any suggestions on how to do a repair install?

System backup and restore does not work, hence the VSS errors.

Re: Windows 7 Sp1 Updates Fail

Just booted from CD, chose repair option, then Command Prompt.

Ran this command: sfc /scannow /offbootdir=c:\ /offwindir=c:\windows
got the following when it finished:
"Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations"

I tried to upgrade/re-install per instructions in the link provided, including uninstall of sp1, but the upgrade stops at "the version on your computer is a newer version than the version on CD, cannot upgrade".

Well, I don't want to tie up resources any longer.

Thanks.
