[SOLVED] [7SP1HomePre x64] WU kb2952664 will not install

Good morning forum I have a update kb2952664 that will not install the other updates installed with no problem but this one is giving me a hard time. My sfc /scannow scans say no violations and the checksur logs say no errors but I found on the cbs log error store corrupt detected in function component store. The update error I am getting is 80073712. I look into installed updates and saw that this update was installed in 11/10/2017 so I deleted that one and tried to install it again but to no avail. Extra intelligence and skill is needed from the forum to help me solve this one. Here is the logs and thanks for your time and attention.

Absolutely!!!! I love working with techs and members of the forum you guys are so smart. In my afford to fix the this update failure I uninstalled this update as I stated earlier and then tried to reinstall it but it didn't work , also my sfc /scannow scans say that there is no violations but when I look into the logs I and search I find the there are corruptions and errors so here is another log from my latest sfc scan

Search with Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST)



  • Download FRST64 and save it to the Desktop.
  • Open the Command Prompt as Administrator (Tutorial)
  • Type or copy/paste the following command:

 dism /online /Get-FeatureInfo /FeatureName:TFTP|find "completed"


  • Wait for the command to finish with "The operation completed successfully" If it does not, please continue with the steps.
  • Close the window "Administrator: Command Prompt"
  • Execute FRST/FRST64 right click on the icon
    FRST.jpg
    and choose Run as Administrator. Make sure all other windows are closed.
    (When the tool opens for the first time, you must click Yes on the disclaimer.)

  • On the Search box (1) type or copy and paste the following text:
    KB2952664
  • Press the Search Registry button.
  • Wait for the search to finish FRST will produce a log called (SearchReg.txt) in the same directory the Tool is run from.
  • Please attach the log to your post.

Ran the update and it failed again error 80073712 here is a fresh cbs log. Download CBS.zip from Sendspace.com - send big files the easy way the only place where that update is on my computer is in the software distribution download ready to be installed. The sfc /scannow fresh scan says on violations but again when I go to edit and find corruption it finds error sxs component store corrupt and when I go to the find cannot it finds cannot delete many times. Hope this report helps to narrow down the problem.

Retrieve Components Hive
 1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
2. Please copy this file to your desktop.
Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
3. Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
4. The file will likely be too large to upload here so please upload toa file sharing service and just provide the link here.

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.


  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the attached file, SFCFixScript.txt, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFixScript.txt - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFixScript.txt.
  5. Drag the file SFCFixScript.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a log should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this into your next post for me to analyse please - put [CODE][/CODE] tags around the log to break up the text.

No problem. The Code tag refers to the hash symbol (fourth icon from the end on the list above the message box).

Okay, let's try resetting WU Components:

Download the following file.
Create a new folder on your Desktop.
Extract the file you've downloaded to a new folder on your Desktop you've created in the previous step.
Right-click ResetWUEng.cmd file and select Run as Administrator.
A windows will appear prompting you if you want to continue with the process. Please press Y.
Another menu will appear. Press 2: Reset Windows Update Components.
Verify that you have selected number 2 and hit Enter.
Wait until the process is complete.
You should see the message: The operation completed successfully.
Press any key to continue. . .

Close the window and reboot.

Is the update still listed after this? If yes, attempt the install and attach CBS.log if it fails.

I performed the above tasks and that update (kb2952664) failed as usual, but the other update which is optional succeeded (kb4075211) it appears that there is not a update problem parse but only with this particular update. I ran a new sfc /scan and the log is clean with no violations and there is no errors with the sfc.exe diagnostic tool and by the way update error is 80073712.

Ran the update again and it failed. looking into the cbs logs and you can see that the error _sxs_component store is repeatedly reported with hresult 80073712 and error _ sxs_component store corrupt. I believe that if we solve this then the update will update. This is similar my itune installation problem that I posted about a month ago and I was able to solve it by dealing with the side by side problem. ran the sfc scan and it reports no violations and the checksur logs sites no errors. I am no computer tech but I believe this is more a side by side error then updates because all the other updates update.Download CBS.zip from Sendspace.com - send big files the easy way
