Hello I have been getting this error since November, trying to install that month's monthly roll up with no success. I am able to install any optional updates, the only one it seems can't install is the monthly and update KB2952664. So I have been searching online for any help but nothing I came across would work, I would sometimes come across this website. I have done the Fix windows error on the windows support website but nothing is working. I have ran the sfc scans with windows resource protection not finding any integrity violations and SURT so I have the CBS logs attached.

I am on Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1 x64

Thank you

Please start with the following.

Step#1 - SFCFix Script
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop. If you still have this on your desktop from downloading previously, you don't need to re-download.
  2. Download SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please

ok just a bit of an update from my previous log, I was able to get the KB files fixed by downloading all the missing ones and having SURT fix them, that was about 30 different ones, so the only thing I have left that's not getting repaired is the Component Store part.

Here is the updated CBS Folder.

I am still getting the 80073701 error on the Windows update. I also ran a WindowsUpdate.diagcab and got another error for Windows Update Error 0x80070490 Not Fixed. All the other Problems found by the troubleshooter was fixed.

Good. Please uninstall KB4038777 (September Rollup) from your computer. Then reboot and then attempt KB4056894 (the January update).

I do not have KB4038777 installed, doesn't seem to be showing up in my Installed Updates list.

That's not uncommon. Please do the following.

FRST Registry Search
1. Click your Start button and choose Control Panel.
2. In the upper right corner ensure the View by: is set to Category.
3. Select the Programs group.
4. Click the Turn Windows features on or off link. This will bring up the Windows Features dialog. Wait until this dialog populates with information.
Note: This loads your components hive which is what we want. Please keep this dialog open while you perform the remaining steps.
5. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
6. Run FRST64 by Right-Clicking on the file and choosing Run as administrator.
7. Copy and paste
KB4038777 into the Search box and click the Search Registry button.
8. When the scan is complete a notepad window will open with the results. Please copy and paste the contents in your next reply. If for some reason notepad doesn't open the file should be
saved on your desktop named Search.txt.
9. You may close any remaining open windows now.

Please do the following.

FRST Fix
NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system
1. Download attached file and save it to the Desktop.
Note. It's important that both files, FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work (in this case...the desktop).
2. Run FRST64 by Right-Clicking on the file and choosing Run as administrator.
3. Press the Fix button just once and wait. If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
4. When finished FRST64 will generate a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please post the contents of it in your reply.

OK so the January Rollup was installed with no problem but when I tried to install KB2952664 that failed and Windows Update diagcab is still giving me the 80070490 error.

It doesn't appear that you sent me all the CBS Logs that were in c:\windows\logs\cbs

There should be more...some starting with the name CBS, etc.
