Enquiring on behalf of a friend (hopeful that I have all of the necessary information!!).

Acer Aspire desktop PC
Windows 7 Premium preloaded

The system has, for some time evidently, been initiating a Windows 10 upgrade. When this has started it's always been aborted without issue: Win 7 has continued to work fine. The last time this upgrade started, however, the owner aborted too late as evidenced by the fact that, now upon powering up, the post-Windows-7 blue window graphic appears in the middle of the display. The little dotted circle starts its gyrations. But then... two messages come up in succession and in short order, followed by a reboot... and so on... and so on... forever.

The messages are:

Attempting to recover installation...
Restoring your previous version of Windows...

I'm unable to do anything here. Windows does not reach the point where I might enter into safe mode before it reboots. Recovery DVDs weren't made for this PC (which is too bad since it's already been determined that no data exists on the unit that might have to be rescued).

Thanks for any advice.

Well then... I decided that I'd find out if I might somehow secure recovery DVDs from Acer. In so doing I came across a gem in their FAQs. Alt-F10, pressed as the computer boots, brings you into recovery mode from a hidden partition on the hard drive. From there I'm now, basically, returning the hard drive to "factory"... which was an option in this case since the user had already determined that nothing needed to be rescued from the machine.

And we're done!!
