Hello,
I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1, 64 bit. I tried to install update KB4056894 January Monthly Rollup; but it failed (error code 80070490).

1 or 2 weeks ago I also tried to install (before KB4056894) KB4054518 December Monthly Rollup so many times, and it also failed so many times. It doesn't seem now at Windows Update.

Firstly, I was trying to upgrade to Windows 10 but it was failing. I tried so many things to solve it. Then I noticed that there is an update problem (for windows 7- KB4054518-error code 80070490) and I thought maybe it's causing an upgrade problem to Windows 10. I tried some solutions, but I couldn't solve it. I installed System Update Readiness Tool, it installed, but it did't solve anything. I uninstalled it from control panel (about 1-2 weeks ago). Now it doesn't install again -error code 80070050- (KB947821).

Finally, only KB4056894 January Monthly Rollup appears in Windows Update and System Update Readiness Tool doesn't install. By the way, Windows 10 Upgrade failed at "Windows 10 Installing" around 20%. But i didn't remember what the error code is.

I ran sfc /scannow, and it says "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations".

System Update Readiness Tool failed, it doesn't install.

I want to know if you want to upgrade to Windows 10 or continue with Windows 7?

Do you remember when was the first time you tried to upgrade to Windows 10?
 
I want to upgrade to Windows 10, but i can't do that. My first attempt was on 29 December. It failed, also I tried it after that time. By the way, I can not install only Monthly Rollup Updates, other updates can install. I think, If I can not upgrade to Windows 10, at least I can fix the problem on my system Windows 7. Maybe Windows 7 Update problem is causing to fail upgrade to Windows 10. And my CheckSUR.log:

We will try to find the reason why the upgrade to Windows 10 is failing...

How did you try to upgrade? using the Media Creation Tool that you downloaded from Microsoft or it was from the popup Get Window 10?

See if you have any of those files:
  • C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources\Rollback\setupact.log
  • C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources\Rollback\setupact.err
  • C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources\panther\setupact.log
Attach any of those logs to your post, if they are too big zip them first and attach the zip file.
 
Firstly, I used Windows 10 Update Assistant (on 29 December and after that time). When I used it, it failled when "Installing Windows 10" at 20%. But now I'm using Media Creation Tool, .iso file. It's stucking at "Making sure you're ready to install" and before this step, it's passing automatically "Choose what to keep" step. It appears and dissappears in 1 second ("Choose what to keep"). I can not do anything.

Can you post the exact model of the HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC you have? most likely you have to look on the bottom of the laptop.

Also:


Download MiniToolBox and save the file to the Desktop.
  • List last 10 Event Viewer Errors
  • List Installed Programs
  • List Devices (select Only Problems)
Click on Go.

Post the resulting log in your next reply.

Did you installed Windows 7 fresh at some point or is this installation the original provided by HP?
 
I don't know because I didn't install it; an expert installed it. But I know that Windows 7 is original. By the way, the installation is still the same (28%).
 
That should be no problem. Can you check the setupact.log with the installation running?
 
At this position "C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources\Rollback", there are only 2 files "checkpoint.info" and "rollbackinfo.ini"
 
Check also inside C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources\panther\ and for logs inside C:\$Windows.~BT\sources\panther\setupapi\
