Good morning forum and happy holidays to you if celebrate the seasons at the same time that we do here in the U.S.A. I ran a couple of tests on my hard drive from different sources and I am getting different reports, so I came to the forum for a accurate evaluation of the status of this drive , here is a picture of the results from Gsmart. Thanks for your swift and accurate reply.

Re: hard drive status evaluation

Hello and happy holidays!

In such a case I always recommend the OPs run a test with manufacturer's official utility and see the results.

Re: hard drive status evaluation

I'd say the HDD is indeed failing, since both tools (and one of them official) report errors, so backup your data. I cannot estimate when it's going to fail, can be days, weeks, months, heck, even years before it dies.

Re: hard drive status evaluation

Thanks for your professional and yet humble reply, I brought this refurnished harddrive from ebay for 30 US dollars just to learn how to take out a hard drive that has failed to operate and put in other one and in doing so increase my learning on how to fix certain things on a computer or laptop, when opening harddrive utilities the first report that I got is overview performance is 100% health is all good , but when I ran the smart tests the tests failed by read element, all the quick test drive failed to complete on all four different hard drive utilities tests, but all four utilities also say that the health was a 100% excellent . Thanks for giving me clear instructions on the fate of this harddrive.

Re: hard drive status evaluation

Hello Jcgriff2 I am honored that you shared your expertise in this matter, and I will perform the 2 recommendations and get back to you with the results, and Happy New Years to you and the whole forum.

Re: hard drive status evaluation

Ran the tests and the drive keeps failing the tests, but I have backed up my data and now I know not to buy a refurbished hard drive from ebay, other wise the computer is running great. Thanks for the input guys.

Re: hard drive status evaluation

Agree - never buy a refurbished hard drive. It is not worth the money.

Good luck to you.

Regards. . .
