Thanks for your help.

Hello and welcome

Due to the precise nature of your corruption, you will receive help from a user named SleepyDude. He's one of our senior trainees here who's in his final phase of his studies and needs to gain some real world experience in specific areas of Windows Update. This means that he'll be assisting you, but that I will first need to double check and approve his fixes before he posts them to you. If anything this is a good thing for you because it means that you've got at least two of us watching over your thread, but it will unfortunately add a slight delay between each reply. I hope that you understand and can accept the need for us to train up new members in this way in order to carry on doing what we do here, however, if for any reason you object to this setup, I will happily take on your thread myself.

Thank you very much for your understanding. We'll be with you very shortly.

Absolutely no problem at all, I appreciate any assistance you can provide.

Hi,

Lets try to fix that...

  • Download SFCFix.exe (by Niemiro) and save it to the Desktop
  • Download the file SFCFIX.ZIP, attached below, and save this to your Desktop
  • On your Desktop, make sure you have the two files:
    myjIXnC.png
    SFCFix.exe and
    sfpcJCen14An3ndjNGCI7mByhjHJud.png
    SFCFIX.zip
  • Drag the file SFCFIX.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it

Hi,

Thanks for the logs.

Make sure you restart the computer and then force windows to Search for updates.

From the list of updates offered to install uncheck and/or hide all the updates with the reference "Preview of..." try to install the security updates and let me know the result.

In case of error please report the update involved and the error code.

At first there were no updates to install until I realised that I had hidden the ones causing the problem - sorry, didn't mention this.

Unhid KB4088875. Failed 80073701.

In addition to the KB4088875 which failed again, there are further hidden updates (That remain hidden):

Important KB2952664 WIN7 Update
Recommended KB3138378 WIN7 Update
Recommended KB4033342 .NET 4.7.1
Optional KB3102429 WIN7 Update
Optional Nvidia Display 23.21.13.9077

I assumed that you only wanted me to try the update that caused the initial problem.

Hi,

Please apply the fix attached like you did for post #4 and post the resulting log.

Hi,

No need to run SURT because its not detecting any problems that need fixing, the reported errors can be ignored.

Are you sure about the error code? I see a different error on the log!

Definitely error message 80073701.

error message.jpg

Clarification: SFCFIX ran with no error messages. The I ran SURT. I then extracted the CBS logs BEFORE I ran the KB4088875 update. I will upload the current CBS logs.

Hi,

Uninstall update kb4054518, restart the computer and then try to install the KB4088875 again.

Please report the result.

Failed.
I ran the following command as administrator - wusa /uninstall /kb:4054518 and got the following message:-
The update KB4054518 is not installed on this computer.

Therefore, I have not attempted to install the *KB4088875* again.

SFCFIX contained references to
KB4054518 - See Post #5

Hi,

We need to remove the update manually but before doing that we need more information...

Search with Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST)

  • Download FRST or FRST x64 and save it to the Desktop.
(Please pick the version that matches your operating system's bit type. If you don't know which version matches your system, try FRST if it say that is not compatible with your OS you have to use FRST64)
  • open the Command Prompt as Administrator (Tutorial)
  • type the command:
    dism /online /Get-FeatureInfo /FeatureName:TFTP|find "completed"
  • wait for the command to finish with "The operation completed successfully"
  • close the window "Administrator: Command Prompt"
  • Execute FRST/FRST64 right click on the icon
    FRST.jpg
and choose Run as Administrator. Make sure all other windows are closed.
(When the Tool opens for the first time you must click Yes on the disclaimer.)
    FRST_SearchRegistry.png
  • On the Search box (1) type or Copy & Paste the following text:
    kb4054518
  • Press the Search Registry button.
  • Wait for the search to finish FRST will produce a log called (SearchReg.txt) in the same directory the Tool is run from.
  • Please attach the log to your post.
