I have performed two in place dist upgrades of Windows to fix all the problems I've been experiencing. The problem persists even after a distribution upgrade. The problem I believe is residual files and registry entries that were not removed correctly due to using a third party uninstalling program which failed to remove the files properly. Repair install gives the same error. No matter what version of Sql server I try to install I always get the following error.
