Hello folks,

So I only noticed this problem because of disk crunching being caused by windows cab compressor being unable to compress CBS files which were larger than 2GB. It was stuck in a loop and had created 35GB of files!

Upon inspection, the above update and even similar ones from last year have repeatedly failed to install.

So lets get started by running a tool and collecting more logs...


System Update Readiness Tool (SUR)

• Download the System Update Readiness Tool (x64) and save it to some place, its a big download and eventually we need to run it several times, please keep the file
• Run the tool. Its like an Update but it can take a long time to do the work. You will get an Installation Complete screen when it's done running
• Please attach to your post the log from the following location: C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log
  Note: If the file is too big please Zip it and upload the ZIP file to a service like Dropbox, Google Drive, etc. or upload to SendSpace and just provide the link for the file here

Hi SleepyDude, hola from the mountains of Madrid! Thanks for the instructions. SURT is running but seems to have got stuck at about 95% on the progress bar for the last 15 minutes or so. I'm going to leave it alone for a while and see if it finishes.

Unfortunately I'm doing this over VPN/VNC so I can't see the lights. I could download a disk monitor but I think I'll just leave it go for another 20 minutes and then give up for the night.

Hi,

If you didn't clean the CBS folder to remove those big files please do it by following this:
- Open the Command Prompt as Administrator (Tutorial)
- type:

sc stop trustedinstaller

- delete the contents of the folder c:\Windows\logs\CBS
- on the Command Prompt type:

sc start trustedinstaller

- close the Command Prompt window


SFCFix Script
!!! WARNING !!! The following fix is only relevant for this system and no other, applying this fix on another computer will not work and most likely will cause problems...

• Download SFCFix.exe (by Niemiro) and save it to the Desktop
• Download the file SFCFIX.ZIP, attached below, and save this to your Desktop
• On your Desktop, make sure you have the two files:
  
  SFCFix.exe and
  
  SFCFIX.zip
• Drag the file SFCFIX.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it
• The SFCFix tool will process the script
• Upon completion, a log file SFCFix.txt should be created on your Desktop
• Open the SFCFix.txt log and copy & paste the contents to your post

OK, yes I did clean out the old CBS files. Thanks for the script. I will wait till Monday to run it as I prefer to be on site and not over vnc/vpn in case of reboot issues. I'll be back in touch. Gracias!

Hi again fellers,

It didn't go very smoothly (#4). Seemed to get stuck on "Initialising" a few times, for hours, with no progress on bar. Anyway, after closing it down there was a window behind it that said it had successfully installed the update so I'm linking to the logs: WeTransfer

If you force Windows to search for updates what happens? any error? it lists new updates to install? wich ones?
