Hi

Install of kb4054518 fails with no error message.
Either in windows update or even if I try to install the package manually.

1. sfc /scannow returned 0 error
2. Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth said the /RestoreHealth switch is not correct
3. sfcfix returned 0 error
4. CBS.zip is there : WeTransfer

Thanks for your help

Hello and welcome

Due to the precise nature of your corruption, you will receive help from a user named SleepyDude. He's one of our senior trainees here who's in his final phase of his studies and needs to gain some real world experience in specific areas of Windows Update. This means that he'll be assisting you, but that I will first need to double check and approve his fixes before he posts them to you. If anything this is a good thing for you because it means that you've got at least two of us watching over your thread, but it will unfortunately add a slight delay between each reply. I hope that you understand and can accept the need for us to train up new members in this way in order to carry on doing what we do here, however, if for any reason you object to this setup, I will happily take on your thread myself.

Thank you very much for your understanding. We'll be with you very shortly.

Hi,

Lets see what we can do there are lots of errors in the logs...

Step 1 - Uninstall Update Manually
- open the Command Prompt as Administrator (Tutorial)
- type or Copy & Paste the command:
Code:
wusa /uninstall /KB:4054518

Let me know the result.

Step 2 - System Update Readiness Tool (SUR)
  • Download the System Update Readiness Tool (x64) and save it to some place, its a big download and eventually we need to run it several times, please keep the file
  • Run the tool. Its like an Update but it can take a long time to do the work. You will get an Installation Complete screen when it's done running
  • Please attach to your post the log from the following location: C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log
    Note:
If the file is too big please Zip it and upload the ZIP file to a service like Dropbox, Google Drive, etc. or upload to SendSpace and just provide the link for the file here

Hi

Hi,

Thanks for the information and log.

- Please download the script ListInstalledUpdates.cmd and save it to the Desktop
- Execute the script and wait, when finished it will open Notepad with a log named InstalledUpdates.txt that is also saved on the Desktop
- Attach the file InstalledUpdates.txt to your post

Hi,

Thanks for the log, for some strange reason the result wasn't what I expected!

Lets try a different script because I need to check something...
- Please download the script WUList.cmd and save it to the Desktop
- Execute the script and wait, when finished it will open Notepad with a log named WinUpdates.txt that is also saved on the Desktop
- Attach the WinUpdates.txt log to your post

Hi,

Hi,

It worked.
But now when I run Windows Update, it does not show the one I uninstalled manually. Normal ?

Thanks

Hi,

Good. Yes its normal because those updates are Cumulative a more recent update includes also the corrections applied by the older one.

Sorry, maybe its my English but I didn't understand your last question!

Any other problem?

Now that my instal is clean, I will make a backup.
I used to use GHOST to do that. Any advice on a free alternative that I can boot directly to re-image the laptop ?
