I have Windows Update issues, and my problem couldn't be solved immediately, so I was told to open a thread here. I have a retail purchased copy of Windows 7 Ultimate x64 installed on a month old Ryzen 1600x based system. That is also when I reinstalled Windows. The system was built by me and contains:
Ryzen 1600x CPU
ASRock X370 Killer SLI/ac motherboard
Radeon R9 380 GPU
2x GSkill F4-3200C14-16GTZR RAM chips running at 2066 MHz
XFX Black Edition XPS-850W-BES 850W power supply

I've attached the zip file from the app too.

Here's my MEMORY.DMP file.

Re: [Win7SP1 x64] BSOD on Ryzen Desktop

Without considering overclocking:
- Max System Memory Speed 2667MHz (from amd ryzen 5 1600x specs).
- Same value from motherboard specs.

I'd set the memory speed/frequency to that value.

OK, I've set that. Apart from waiting for a BSOD (!) how do I know it's fixed?

Re: [Win7SP1 x64] BSOD on Ryzen Desktop

There's really no other way to know.

Let's see what this says:

Farbar Service Scanner
1. Download Farbar Service Scanner from here, and move it to the Desktop
2. Right-click on FSS.exe > Run as Administrator
3. Checkmark everything, and click Scan
KUTc3I2.png

4. Once it finishes, Notepad will open FSS.txt on your Desktop. Attach it to your next reply

Well, here it is. Maybe it's fixed?

Re: [Win7SP1 x64] BSOD on Ryzen Desktop

"Riva tuner", MSI afterburner and "elaborate bytes" software could also be possible culprits.
When does the BSOD appear? What are you trying?

It happened multiple time when I first built my system. I thought it was the motherboard's onboard WIFI, since every time I activated it, I got the same BSOD. I disabled it and got an RMA board, then bridged my wifi connections. I had a lot of memory resident items open (many Firefox tabs, playing spotify, etc) when it happened the last time. I think my memory was also boosted to 3200. After this last BSOD, I dropped the memory clock one slot, and disabled the WIFI bridge. I assume that one of those was causing it, so I'm likely good at this point. I'm not using Riva or MSI Afterburner to overclock, simply control the fan speed. I rarely use Elaborate Bytes, so I'd think it's not that.

Ultimately, I'm trying to fix Windows Update issues, and @softwaremaniac thought this should be fixed first. I don't know they have anything in common, but I'm far less concerned with the BSOD. Like I said, once I disable my alterations, it had been fixed. I think it's probably the memory clock speed...

Re: [Win7SP1 x64] BSOD on Ryzen Desktop

Well, just try to continue with SoftwareManiac's instructions.
If another BSOD appears, come back here.

Re: [7SP1 x64] BSOD on Ryzen Desktop. FIX: CHANGED MEMORY SPEED

There has been a newer AMD Radeon driver released on Dec 19. Try this one.

The crash dump showed the following:

I'll give this a go and see how it does after the holidays!

Remove DAEMON Tools

Why?

Re: [7SP1 x64] BSOD on Ryzen Desktop. FIX: CHANGED MEMORY SPEED

Besides of its own drivers that have been known for causing BSODs in the past, I personally haven't seen them cause issues for a long time, Daemon tools offers extra functionality at the end of the installation that has known stability issues.

Interesting! I have both Alcohol 120% and Daemon Tools installed, both of which could use SPTD. But I went to the uninstaller in the link and it says I don't have them installed. I remember unchecking that for Daemon Tools when I installed, I must have done the same for Alcohol. It looks like those wouldn't be causing the issue.

Ok, I'll mark this as solved. :thumbsup2:

I started up after a few days and it looks like it blue screened again, I hadn't even done anything. the FSS.txt is included
