Re: WIN 7 x64 2017-12 Monthly Rollup update failed KB4054518

Hello and welcome!

Please attempt to install the update now and attach CBS.log when it fails. If it's too large, zip it up and upload it somewhere.

Re: WIN 7 x64 2017-12 Monthly Rollup update failed KB4054518

Step#1 - Capture Process Monitor Trace
1. Download and run Process Monitor. Leave this running while you perform the next steps.
2. Attempt the update just like you have in the past.
3. Stop Process Monitor as soon as the update fails. You can simply do this by clicking the magnifying glass on the toolbar as shown below.

4. Select the File menu...Save... and save the file to your desktop. This is likely the default location. The name (unless changed) will be LogFile.PML. This is fine.
5. Zip up and attach the LogFile.PML file as well as your CBS.log.

Re: WIN 7 x64 2017-12 Monthly Rollup update failed KB4054518

No, this is the only one. I've just clean installed WIN 7 the other day and this is the only one left.

Re: WIN 7 x64 2017-12 Monthly Rollup update failed KB4054518

Well I haven't installed it yet at all after the WIN 7 install...

Re: WIN 7 x64 2017-12 Monthly Rollup update failed KB4054518

Hmmm, can you do another check for updates? It is very strange that only the Dec update is shown.

Re: WIN 7 x64 2017-12 Monthly Rollup update failed KB4054518

It's the same again. I think it could be cause it's mainly update for SQL server from what I saw on the info page, which I don't have installed, and that could be why the system refuses it. Now I have installed Office and there is also one update it won't install in the end but I think it said it's cause it's redundant, KB2467173.

Re: WIN 7 x64 2017-12 Monthly Rollup update failed KB4054518

Retrieve Components Hive
1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
2. Please copy this file to your desktop.
Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
3. Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
4. The file will likely be too large to upload here so please upload toa file sharing service and just provide the link here.

Re: WIN 7 x64 2017-12 Monthly Rollup update failed KB4054518

Step 1:
Disable Windows Update:
Click Start > Control Panel > Security > Windows Update > Change Settings.
Select "Never check for updates" in the list.

Stop "Windows Update" service:
Open Windows Task Manager. Open the tab "Services".
Right-click on the service-name "wuauserv" and select "Stop service".

Step 2:
Uninstall Update with DISM

  1. Download the update MSU here: http://download.windowsupdate.com/c..._290d02e1edc77bd5e809f867fc683d2ff4bf6df8.msu
  2. Copy the MSU file to a convenient location (such as C:\temp).
  3. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  4. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  5. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    cd C:\temp
replace C:\temp with your path if different

    expand windows6.1-kb4054518-x64_290d02e1edc77bd5e809f867fc683d2ff4bf6df8.msu -f:* C:\temp

    DISM.exe /Online /Remove-Package /PackagePath:C:\temp\windows6.1-kb4054518-x64.cab
  6. You should receive the message:
    The operation completed successfully.
  7. Make sure to allow the computer to restart if prompted.

If you receive any other message:
  8. Right-click on the Command Prompt window and click Select All, this will invert all of the colours by selecting the text, now press enter. All of this text is now copied.
  9. Paste (Ctrl+V) it into your next post.
  10. Zip and attach C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

Re: WIN 7 x64 2017-12 Monthly Rollup update failed KB4054518

I did that and it says completed successfully... but I am not sure what to do now, zip and attach the CBS or that was only needed in the case of failure in step 6?

Meanwhile been busy and had to reinstall for some other reason and now it works... but I have opened another thread here with sth completely different :) Thanks anyway.
