I am trying to upgrade a Windows 7 computer to Windows 10 (2.30 Ghz, 32 bit OS, 4GB ram). The mediacreation tool keeps failing so I started thinking there might be something wrong with the existing computer, although it is running really well. I tried checking for updates but this fails on code 8007000e, so I started down the rabbit hole of trying to fix that.

I downloaded and ran the Malicious Tool scan and it didn't find anything, Next I ran dism and it seem to find 4 files that where the expectation was not correct, but the log file seems to say the files are unavailable. I also ran sfc /scannow and it reported that there were some corrupt files but was unable to fix them.

I have been told via the grape vine I might be able to get them from your site.

I know I am supposed to upload the CBS folder but I can't find a attach or upload file button. Even when I do I won't be able to upload the folder zipped, because the command I ran last night, I can't seem t get to work now. Not sure what I am doing wrong.

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

C:\Windows\system32>Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool
Version: 6.1.7600.16385

Image Version: 6.1.7601.18489

Error: 87

The restorehealth option is not recognized in this context.
For more information, refer to the help.

The DISM log file can be found at C:\Windows\Logs\DISM\dism.log

C:\Windows\system32>

Okay once I posted the original thread I now get an a attach button.

Hello and welcome,

The DISM option /RestoreHealth is not available in Windows 7.
Please do following only.

Remove Update Manually
  1. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt.
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator.
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following command into it, then press enter.
    wusa /uninstall /KB:3022345
  4. Let me know if it says it was successful or if there are any errors.

Restart the computer.
Open an elevated command prompt.
Copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each.

Code:
sfc /scannow
Wait for this to finish before you continue

Code:
copy %windir%\Logs\CBS\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Zip this file and attach the zipped cbs.txt to your next post.

The log looks clean.

Check Windows Update but do not install any updates yet.
Provide a screenshot of the available important updates first.

Open an elevated command prompt.
Copy and paste the following command into it, then press enter.
Code:
copy %windir%\Logs\CBS\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Zip this file and attach the zipped cbs.txt to your next post.

Attach the file C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CbsPersist_20230813201727.cab to your next reply.

That article doesn't seem to have instructions for windows 7. I tried using 8.1 but the startup tab in msconfig doesn't have a start Task Manager option. I started Task Manager by right clicking on the task bar, but it doesn't have a startup tab. I googled and found Clean boot for Windows operating systems. I will try it.

I followed the article I found for Windows 7 and then rebooted, and then tried windows update again. Still fails on the same thing.

I am curious what command I ran originally that showed the log with the non matching and corrupt mum files. Could that not be what the issue is?

The screenshot you posted in message #8 could be related to an out of memory issue.
Lets have a deeper look at your machine.

FRST Scan:
  1. Download the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop:
32-bit: Downloading Farbar Recovery Scan Tool
Note: Your antivirus program may report FRST incorrectly as an infection. If so, disable the real-time protection when downloading and running FRST.
  2. Right-click to run the tool as administrator. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  3. Note: Ensure that the Addition.txt check box is checked at the bottom of the form within the Optional Scan area.
  4. Press the Scan button.
  5. Please wait for the tool to finish. It will produce two logfiles called FRST.txt and Addition.txt in the same directory the tool is run from (which should be the desktop)
  6. Post the logfiles FRST.txt and Addition.txt as attachment in your next reply.

Peter my apologies. I was first trying to upgrade this machine to windows 10. That failed so I started looking for reasons as to why. My first thought was maybe windows 7 is not up to date as much as it can be. I tried windows update and it failed. During my google searches I found some where to try run a dism command which I did and it revealed 4 missing/corrupted mum files. I first reported my problem on bleepingcomputer, com and attached the log with the 4 missing/corrupted mum files. One suggestion I got was head over to sysnative.com and they should be able to provide me with the mum files. You had me try a number of things. In the meantime there were still suggestions coming from bleeping. When I saw one that had some substance I responded by asking 'Am I just supposed to ignore the suggestion of heading over to sysnative.com, because having two people help me with different suggestions is not good for me, and it certainly isn't good for the people who are trying to help me. I didn't get any response because I am sure nobody wants to say anything bad about anybody else. Eventually I got a response from bleeping saying that the solution they were providing was suppose to fix the actual upgrade to Windows 10, not the windows 7 update issue. I use these sites quite a bit with computer issues and this has taught me there needs to be a little more commuication in what we are trying to resolve. If something I suggest is of no consequence it would be helpful to be told that so we are all on the same page.

Anyway I tried the two suggestions provided (https://catalog.s.download.windowsu..._cdafb409afbe28db07e2254f40047774a0654f18.msu and https://download.microsoft.com/down...F-BC2C-D69E5B9E9A68/MicrosoftEasyFix51044.msi) and now Windows 10 seems to be installing.

It looks like the Windows 7 update issue is mute now. Sorry for the confusion.

I first reported my problem on bleepingcomputer, com
It would have been nice if you added that in your initial post.

You had me try a number of things. In the meantime there were still suggestions coming from bleeping. Well, as you stated already it is not good for you and the helpers involved having 2 thread for the same problem. It's a waste of time for the helpers. You might get confusing instructions or logs can contain confusing results.
If you need help in the future please report if you have multiple threads opened.

Can we mark this thread as solved ?

Yes I should have been more clear of what I meant by grapevine. And the person who sent me here should have assumed you were just going to give me the file he figured I needed. Again my apologies. I will be clearer in the future for everyone's best interest. You can mark this thread as resolved.
